Would you be so kind as to expand on your comment a wee bit? Or was that the point?

Yes that was the point. I was being clever, a habit I seem to try a lot and it amuses me more than others ( ... )

This is excellent. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

I do understand what you mean by the "flittering butterfly" in the Faerie Scene. Very common. Possibly James Barrie's fault. When describing faeries, he say that they are so small, they can only experience one emotion at a time. That is all that will fit!

"Often time, the phrase "Being in the moment" is used as an excuse to not deal with the effects of one's actions." This is an important point. I really dislike having the thought, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

i would say it depends on your concept of the moment- it is certainly possible to live to much in "your" moment (without considering the world around you and others) but i don't know that it's possible to live too much in the moment when you are living it with the ones you love

Good point. Don't want to push out the rest of the world. But, what if I don't like the rest of the world?

Most certainly. If you lose sight of the fact that there is a future that might matter, and do nothing to set up for that future, and even disregard the fact that some things you're doing now may have adverse effects on your future, the results are not likely to be worth it. Some balancing of the current moment & other concerns will improve many future moments, so each moment you're living in will on average be better off from the fact that you've done that balancing during many past moments.

Must one always balance the current moment with future moments? What about past moments? That is what gets me most. I spend very little time thinking about the past.

Past moments seem unrelated to how I interpreted this question. But maybe they're related to what you meant by the question in the first place?

Actually, I while I could elaborate, I think Cos said it better and briefer.

I would say yes. Yin and Yang is the perfect thing to say here. You always have to have a balance of everything, no matter what it is. Life or anything else. Live in the moment, but always look to the future. Don't dwell on the future, and definitely not on the past, but you should always be aware of both. The past teaches us, and the future gives us drive. Without those, we wouldn't be the people that we are.

So, even given all of this, if you're concerned about this question, its most likely that you're not living too much in the moment, but you have to judge for yourself. :)

It is my relationship to the past that worries me. I spend very little time thinking about the past.

You don't have to think about the activities and actions of the past, but remember the lessons and what you learned. The point is just to make sure you don't repeat the past.

*hugs*

And most of all, relax. Stressing about being too in the moment is not good for you. :)
