Please help. I need to figure out a name for my business and I am having no luck. We discusses variations of NBS last time, this time let's look at things like Sylfaen Fitness. All of the things I think of are derivative of other names I already know. The name doesn't have to reflect the health coaching part of the business, but it certainly ( Read more... )

I like Sylfaen Fitness... but others are...

Sylfe Wellness
Faire Fitness (could have a nice FF logo)
Fitness for Fairies (probably not, but it sounds fun ;)

Maybe I'll think of more and add them later. :)

I like the faerie angle, but I'm thinking most folks won't be too impressed by it.

I'm concerned that some of T's suggestions are going to limit your client base (those who are NOT fairies).

If I look at the business name "Sylfaen Fitness" without knowing you, so I was just trying to choose a fitness person by name (say out of the phone book), I might skip that one because I don't know what a Sylfae is. It's not really recognizable as a last name to people who don't already KNOW that it's a last name.

I guess it would depend on where you're anticipating getting business from. If most of your business comes from referrals, then my concerns won't really matter because incoming clients will already know that you're awesome. If you're anticipating getting more business from people who just sort of choose you from a list somewhere (online, from a flier, at a gym), then you might do better with a name that would appeal to a very broad population.

I thought the same thing. I understand all of these things, which is why I am asking for suggestions. Do you have suggestions?

I'll think about it today and see if I come up with anything. Usually I'm not the creative part of the team, I'm the part who gives feedback on the list of ideas. :)

What are the things that you are trying to convey with the name?

Convey: fitness, wellness, personal training, health coaching, nutrition help...any of these are good.

Well, if you do like it, then consider the marketing angles of using trees for your theme - for the more macho-type men, you can go with the Mighty Oak package. New mothers might want the Willow package - lots of flexibility and an emphasis on slender strength. Etc.

How about something more Earthy?
Mother Earth Health
Forest Glen Fitness
I agree that I might skip over something I did not recognize, like Sylfae.
Faire Form Fitness?

I see the point in skipping over an odd name. FFF is kind of cool, but will probably put off the builder types.
