For people who know me REALLY well, I am either cynical or naive. I know I can be both. Influenza viruses reassort fairly regularly. The particular swine/human/avian triple reassortment is the normal swine flu that's been circulating in North America for at least then years. The triple reassortment appeared around 1998 and displaced other swine flu strains then.

In other words, the triple reassortment thing is a complete red herring -- it's not at all unusual for swine flu. This is influenza virus, business as usual.
