I am a materialist whore

It is with much shame and humiliation that I confess to you, my dear friends, that today I have dishonored myself by violating my own principles. Today... I gave money to Apple.

It turns out that my morals (as morals tend to) have had a price. My price was an iphone.

(let the justification begin)

At least its Apple... and not like De Beers or someone else truly evil and not just kinda naughty. I dislike Apple enough to really loath giving them my hard earned dosh... but I don't dislike them enough to deny myself the pleasure of living in the future with my iphone.

Having gotten my grubby stumps upon at least three supposed "iphone killers" in the last few months, I've been embarrassed on behalf of the hardware manufacturers. Seriously guys? This is all you've got? Its been a year. If this is the best you've got after a year, I'm not expecting anything in the next year... shit, maybe three years. And while you play ketchup, apple has a kabiljilzillion dollars, market inertia, and a huge head start.

The first Android (aka google-phone) still doesn't have a release date, and definitely wont be multi-touch.

Design this good demands my (admittedly pathetically small) market power be invoked.

They're sooo awesome, and they're sooooo cheap!!

(/end justification)

For the record, I couldn't care in the slightest who has one, or who sees me with one... this is a toy for me. Social aspects are a non-issue for me.

Haven't figured out if there is an easy way to transfer my contacts yet. So for the next few days it might be a good idea to send your first sms starting with "this is [your-name-here]".

iphone, life, cingular, apple, at&t, birthday, morals, principles
