IT'S GO TIME!

Apr 06, 2008 17:11

It's Sunday afternoon and I am writing this from the office. The new server I've been working on for the last 8 months is ready for prime time so we decided to switch over the main development environment today (rather than tomorrow to minimize the effect on the rest of the team). It's going pretty smoothly, because we found all the real problems ( Read more... )

Congrats! Hopefully you can sleep or something.

"if anyone notices any problems the new server will be one of the first things they'll suspect"

I've certainly had that experience more than once. I have to admit to enjoying it, though, when my new system got blamed... before I actually deployed it. :)

You've been quiet on the home front. What have you been up to these days?

Heh, there's a reason my LJ is titled "infrequent ramblings". :) Nothing too significant going on here. More janitorial work during the day, more managing a bunch of egos at night ( ... )

Aha! Good to hear from you, in any case :)

How often do you guys raid? PST hours I assume?

We used to raid three nights a week, W/F/M (listed in raid week order rather than normal week order). We're shifting to T/W/Th, and then adding Saturday raids, because Friday raids tended to be pretty weak anyway so we can easily use Saturday as Farm day (SSC/TK) since that's what Friday was anyway. The goal here was to have three solid nights for Hyjal/BT. Last night was our first raid under the new schedule and it went pretty well -- solid attendance despite the last-minute scheduling (I announced the raid schedule change on Monday night, although it'd been discussed for 2 weeks prior; I decided we had to just do it and deal with the fact that the first week might be a bit rocky). We got the first three bosses in Hyjal done, which is solid raiding for us in one night.

I'm in Texas so the raid times have to be reasonable for me, but I also go to sleep late. We start at 7 PM Pacific (it's a Pacific server) and usually go for 3-4 hours, meaning I get done at midnight or 1 AM local time for me (Central).
