My dad used to be painfully thin with muscles to die for (so my mom tells me, but I have seen pictures and grudgingly agreed), although he was known to eat a dozen donuts on the way to class in college and then down a bag of oreos and a gallon of milk for a snack.
Personally, I'd prefer to eat healthily and skimp on exercise. It would most likely result in lower cholesterol and a healthier heart, although exercise is also good for the circulatory system, obviously. But so long as I'm not sedentary, a little movement goes a long way.
But then, look at sumo wrestlers - they exercise like MAD, but they eat so much that while they have muscles and are strong as strong can be, most have heart problems or other health issues.
I'd say balance is the key. One can argue for either extreme all day long and never prove one is ultimately better than the other, though it would be interesting to think about a little more.
eating super healthy by farbunnybradshawApril 14 2004, 11:37:47 UTC
eating super healthy will make you live much longer, the foods we eat have a lot to do with our death, cancers and heart diease. eating ultra healthy would make one really lean too.
Lots of exercise may not do much if your eating that much crap. that's my opinion
A few years ago, I read a specific CRON (Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition) study showing that the first option is far more conducive to a longer lifespan and even is better in that respect than moderate exercise! I am not a fan of exercise (although, admittedly, my diet isn’t that healthy either -insert eyeroll--), so I have kept this in defense of my lifestyle over the years. Now I share the (debatable) wealth with you.
This is meme from TF, by the by. Some of your posts have caught my eye (one from a bit back in OP on sleep comes to mind just now), just because you seem to have a propensity to think about matters more than some of our fellow food-obsessed compatriots...I’d like to be added and read, if that’s okay. In advance, I only use my journal for stalking people these days tho. Just so you know. ;)
...Just realized, bright star that I am, that you may not wish others to read certain portions of my comment (i.e., TF, food-obsession, ect). Feel free to screen/delete it.

Thanks for the mental fodder, yo.

Of course I will add you :) You don't seem like much of a non-thinker yourself.
