From the Walden Jackson County Star (Colorado)

On August 9, a gate was left open along Highway 14 west of Walden and several head of cattle left a perfectly good pasture with some of the lushest grass in years to go stand on asphalt. Their owner was notified.

When I lived in Africa, we'd regularly encounter sheep in the middle of the road, staring fixedly at one spot, waiting to see if grass would go.

Sheep were easy to avoid, though, because you knew if one sheep got a message to cross the road, all other sheep in the vicinity would be following it. Goats, in contrast, would go into tricky avoidance maneuvers which often took them right inot the path of a vehicle. And my moto instructor told us to drive right at chickens, on the theory that they would sprint off in some random direction at the last minute, so aiming at them reduced your chance of actually hitting them.

Jon gets really annoyed when i drive because I'll swerve for leaves, thinking they are birds. I'd be terrible in Africa, there's no way I'd be able to drive right at the chickens! ACK!

What is a moto instructor?

Cows are not known for being smart. Neither are sheep or chickens for that matter.

Farm animals can be weird like that. I've seen my share of cows, horses and especially goats trying to stand to the cars trying to go around them like the cars were invading their turf. It can be kind of funny to watch if you're not in a hurry.
