Poem: "The Flashpoint of Analysis"

Jun 03, 2010 01:26

This poem came out of the June 1, 2010 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was prompted and sponsored by janetmiles.  Those of you not already familiar with alignment in roleplaying games can read about "true neutral" online.

The Flashpoint of Analysis

To be true neutral
is to live at the center of the compass,
aloof from the spin and dance
of the fickle pin.

Morality is circumannular,
not cruciform,
a thing of meticulous degrees
and infinite shades of gray.

From these alone the picture emerges,
one point at a time,
unbounded by expectations,
free to reveal the unvarnished truth.

Until the right moment arrives,
there is no decision;
this is not paralysis
but patience.

It all comes clear in an instant,
the flashpoint of analysis
illuminating a path past all challenges
as agency crystallizes into action.
