Dragon Candy
Two dragonets were tussling
in front of the cave
when the knight appeared.
"Die, demonspawn vermin!"
he roared, charging into the fray.
"Candy!" squealed the house-sized dragonets,
and pounced upon the knight.
Their mother poked her head out of the cave
and reminded her frustrated offspring,
"First you have to peel the foil off, darlings."
The red dragonet hooked a claw
under the helmet and flicked it away.
"I could eat a whole box of these,"
she said, munching happily.
"Chewy outside, with a crisp and crunchy center!"
The blue dragonet sat on his haunches
and howled, "I want candy too!"
"Very well, dear," said their mother,
and lifted the bugling warhorse out of the woods.
"No fair!" whined the red dragonet.
"You gave him the bigger piece!"
So the green dragon peeled the barding off,
bit the horse in half, and swallowed the front herself.
"I just love these chocolate-colored ones," she said.
