Poetry Fishbowl Report for June 1, 2010

Jun 03, 2010 12:44

June's theme of "opposites" led to some interesting interpretations, including several aspects of eastern culture (with dynamic balance rather than opposed duality) and even one about the absence of opposites.  A surge of prompts midday dried up later; after I'd written one poem using a prompt from each person, and doubled back to some others that intrigued me, I wound up closing earlier than usual.  I worked from 11:45 AM to 9 PM, so about 7 hours 15 minutes, allowing for lunch and supper breaks.  I wrote 17 poems, which is in my typical range despite the short timeframe.  Almost all of them were medium-short, with a couple of short, a medium-long, and a couple of long poems; there were no epics this time.  There were also no rhymed or metered poems, although the free verse ran strongly to structured verses (couplets, tercets, quatrains) and one poem used haiku-form verses.  Some came from single prompts; some combined prompts by different people.  A total of 13 people sent prompts.  Please welcome new prompters the_vulture and shadowsculptor!  You have them to thank for the extra freebie poem.  There were 46 comments including mine.

This is the summer slump, by the way.  Traffic on my LJ is considerably lower than it was a few months ago; the same trend affects how well the Poetry Fishbowl does.  *sigh*  My output remains high, but getting other folks involved is harder during the summer months.  I think people are outside or on vacation a lot more, rather than online.

Buy Some Poetry!
If you plan to sponsor some poetry but haven't made up your mind yet, read the list of unsold poems.  That includes the title, length, price, and the original thumbnail description for the poems still available.

Poems already sponsored have been posted.  Backchannel copies of other poems have been sent to their respective prompters.  The general donation fund looks good for this month; I'm waiting for another anticipated contribution to that before I post the generally sponsored poetry poll.  I also need to write the perk-post for donors.  The generally sponsored poetry polls are complete and those poems have been posted. The donor perk-post is also up. The June donors include: ellenmillion, marina_bonomi, shadowsculptor, and janetmiles.  Thank you for your support; you're a terrific audience and I treasure your participation.

The Poetry Fishbowl project also has a permanent  landing page.
