This poem came out of the November 2, 2010 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from
janetmiles and my partner Doug. It was sponsored by

The Door of Keys
This is the door for which you have been waiting.
This is the door between worlds,
beyond which lie realms of infinite possibility.
This is the door that can only be opened
by the key to your heart.
It is your door, and only yours.
Nobody but you can open it.
Your door is not the same as anyone else's door.
It will take you anywhere at all --
wherever you want or need to go.
The only catch is that you cannot go back
once you have turned the key and passed the door.
It is any door. It is every door. It is no door.
It may appear to you as a gate of wrought iron
or an arch carved out of stones.
It may be made of brick or wood or glass.
It could be empty of everything but the air.
It is a candy door, a car door, a wish door.
This is the door that has been waiting for you.
It dreams of you whenever you cross an ordinary door,
but you are not yet real to it.
This is the door you will not find
until you are ready to walk through it.
