Dec 07, 2010 13:17

Starting now, the Poetry Fishbowl is open!  Today's theme is "Oceans and Other Waters" as selected by the audience in a poll.  I will be checking this page periodically throughout the day. When people make suggestions, I'll pick some and weave them together into a poem ... and then another ... and so on. I'm hoping to get a lot of ideas and a lot ( Read more... )

From the long prompt about dolphins, I got the free verse poem "Menfishers." Herein the dolphins explain their relationship with humans. It is written with some delphine phrasing in an attempt to show how the perceptions of people who live in a 3D aquatic environment and see with their ears would come across in English. They tend to think in layers and with ideas pointing in two directions at once.

I loved the story of Mazu! From this I got "going to the ocean," a piece from the Origami Mage series, written in tanka verses. It's very near the end of the cycle, after she has vanquished her rival, and she's asking the goddess for advice on what to do next. So I don't know if you'll want to release it yet.

Oh, my what to do.

I'll definitely sponsor it and I want to read it now, now, NOW (what else is new?), but I'm not sure about releasing it right now...I'll let you decide when it feels right to publish it, ok?

There are so many pieces you wrote this time that I want to read, I wish I could sponsor at least another two or three.

That works. I have marked "going to the ocean" as paid, to be published closer to the series end.

Wait and see what pops up on its own. There's already a $10 donation in the general fund, and one of my regular donors hasn't chipped in yet. If your favorites are still looking for a home later, you can always ask me to hold them for you.
