Of Salt and Water
Life is made of salt and water.
It began in the ocean,
the cradle of life.
Our blood is the body's river,
running with red seawater.
Our sweat spills with the body's tide,
wrung from the work of our flesh.
Our tears rain down the cliffs of our cheeks,
seeking the ocean that weeps in our dreams.
As the water drops, the salt grows stronger --
the Dead Sea and the Great Salt Lake.
When the water is gone and the sea is lost,
still the salt remains, white as the tide-moving moon.
The salt flats wait for time to turn and the water to flow,
when life will again arise, resurrected from the brackish dust.
