Poetry Fishbowl Report for Tuesday July 5, 2011

Jul 08, 2011 22:11

The July theme was low fantasy.  It started a bit slow, then prompts trickled in, and kept coming in small spurts throughout the day.  There were 83 comments, including quite a lot of crosstalk; some ideas that I used were from there instead of the main prompt comments.  (Anything is fair game.  You give each other good ideas.)  I worked from noon to 3:30 A.M. which is half an hour longer than my previous record; that's about 13 hours 30 minutes of work time, allowing for lunch and supper breaks.  Length ran long this month, with 7 epics -- nearly half the 16 poems -- and the others medium or long.  All the poems were free verse except one, but quite a few used a specific verse type, such as quatrains.  There is also a lot of humor relating to fantasy roleplaying games, in addition to famous tropes of low fantasy pulp fiction.

A total of 15 people sent prompts.  Welcome to new prompter quennessa, who both inspired and qualified the posting of the second freebie poem.  Part 1 and Part 2 of "Playing with Babydoll" are up, and the others will appear over the next couple of days.

We crossed the $150 threshold, so you've earned an extra serial poem!  The serial poem poll eventually settled on Shahana the Paladin.  If you are a current donor, please check out the call for prompts.  (If not, a donation will let you into this.)  Also, the generally sponsored poetry poll is complete.  In addition to the two $10 poems, $14 went into microfunding open epics, so you have new verses to enjoy.  In fact, you broke the previous record for highest donation total in a fishbowl, woohoo!

Future Perk:  Since this is also the third time you've earned the extra serial poem, that activates the next perk threshold that I had in mind.  Cross the $200 mark, and you get an extra Poetry Fishbowl  focused on a popular series.  That's likely to be a half-day rather than a whole day, because working with that tight a focus is harder; but we'll see how it plays out.

The audience and my muse went nuts with serial poetry this time.  There are FOUR new series listed on the "Serial Poetry" page of my PenUltimate Productions website.  Three of those are brand-new; the fourth expanded a previous poem into a series, thus earning it an entry on the page.  There is also a new Fiorenza poem, which will become available after the conclusion of " Fiorenza and the Witch-Son."
