Poem: "Jest in Fun"

Nov 02, 2011 23:36

This poem came out of the November 1, 2011 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from aldersprig and sponsored by janetmiles.

Jest in Fun

It's not funny
to amuse oneself
at someone else's direct expense.

True humor
uplifts the spirit
instead of putting someone down.

What matters is not so much
what you say or how you say it but
whether you are laughing with  someone
or laughing at  someone.

It is wise to be gentle in one's jests,
for Trickster listens to all the laughter in the world,
and if there are any unhappy tears in it
then you may be certain

Trickster will aim a banana peel at the heel.
