The May theme was "anti-heroes and anti-villains." Prompts were a slow trickle through most of the day, which was fine, because I was writing slowly as well. A total of 15 people sent prompts. There were 35 comments on LJ and 4 on DW, counting mine. I worked from 12:15 PM to 3:45 AM, so about 13 hours 30 minutes, accounting for lunch and supper breaks. Then I spent some more time writing spillover poems on subsequent days.
I wrote 13 poems on Tuesday and another 4 later. The poems were mostly epics with a handful of shorter ones. Most were free verse, with one done in unrhymed triplets, two in unrhymed quatrains, and a villanelle. One-prompt poems predominated.
Two new series were launched. The Asgard Eddas includes "Within the Wolf's Jaws" from this month and "The Forging of Brisingamen" ($48) from the February 19, 2008 fishbowl. This series comes from my main science fiction setting and has a Norse flavor. One God's Story of Mid-Life Crisis began this month with "
Good Help Is Hard To Find." Comments on that poem inspired three more poems. "Dead Soldiers on Parade" ($48.50) is available in the
second general poll. It relates Shaeth's attempts to keep Trobby from getting too drunk too often. "Manning the Handbasket" ($20) shows Hevarre, God of Good, coming to Shaeth about the problem of finding a new God of Evil. "Blood Will Tell" ($20) introduces a prophecy about the successor. Finally, the series title is courtesy of
minor_architect. I couldn't resist. I've added these three to the
unsold poetry list.
There were three new prompters, woohoo!
fatfred,
kitrona, and
DW user avia have activated the second freebie poem. Special thanks to
minor_architect for managing the linkback poem "
Signs Along the Way." (That still has 4 verses outstanding. You can reveal those by linking to the
unsold poetry list or a specific poem that you like.) Special thanks to
my_partner_doug for managing the ticker.
Donations started out slow but ended well. We met the $200 goal for a free epic, and the poll settled on "
Crossing the Line." The first general poll funded "
A Catalog of Flaws" and the
second one is still going. The $250 goal for an extra fishbowl session was met, which puts the tally at 2 out of 3. The $300 goal for a half-price poetry sale was met, and an audience poll selected
Path of the Paladins. running May 14-20.
