The Weekend Rovers
Through the week they hide
in plain sight, wear disguises
that neighbors mistake for truth.
On the weekends they sport
green skin and treble breasts,
corrugated foreheads, robot armor,
wings and tails and spiral horns.
Monday through Friday
they live in apartments
and everyday houses.
On the weekends they flock
to hotels, pile into parking lots,
gather in nerd-herds
as far as the eye can see.
From nine to five
they pretend to be
ordinary, everyday, human.
Off the clock they revel
with glorious songs from the stars,
collaborate on paintings,
scribble plots all over napkins.
Then they sleep it off,
dream while awake all week,
waiting for the weekend
when their minds can roam free again.
