There really is a lot of headbutting between literalist and constructionist views of gender. I don't think that's productive. Because the thing is, everyone has a body but not everyone identifies with it to the same degree. Your comment got me thinking about my own perspectives on the matters you discussed, and how they relate to topics covered in the article. I got seriously interested, and by the time I was done, had written more than two comments' worth describing my own (and others') views of the gender, transition, and trans community issues raised in those places. So I posted in my own blog, and I'm linking here.

I'm not wise enough in LJ etiquette to know whether subsequent commentary belongs here or on my post. Given that either might happen, interested people should check both places.
