They're talking about Hell again at the Christianity community. All the usual suspects are pontificating about how to react to the "fact" that some people are not as loved by God as they are. Odd how no-one ever says, "Well, of course, I may well be going to Hell ( Read more... )

I'll be honest: I fail to see how people like Hitler or Hussein are heaven-worthy (whoops, did I just Godwin myself?), but that's for bigger and better minds than mine, and I will admit that freely.

I think you take religion more seriously than I do, but there's a passage in the book "Good Omens" that pretty much sums up your point about being happy to go to heaven. Aziraphale (an angel) is trying to find his way back to England and lands on an American televangelist's show, where he says something about who has the time to pause Armageddon to go around picking out all the believers to hang in the air and sneer at the people dying of starvation and radiation poisoning on the ground - IF that's your idea of a morally acceptable time, he would like to add.
