Tailoring

So I've decided to make purses and messenger bags and other hand crafted bags in my spare time to sell. I've been kicking around the name "Heather's Heartfelt Handbags".....Lowells mom is going to sell them in her shop and I'll probably be trying to sell them online. We'll see how far it goes, but I am super excited. Tomorrow I'm going shopping for ( Read more... )

You'd better post a photo.

Or else.

My sister posted pics on this craft sight she likes. The only pictures I can show are these

How are you going to make them? Are you knitting them or sewing swatches? I'm intrigued.

Well, I posted a link in my reply to Jim you should look at. Essentially what I'm going to do is use clothing to create "rescued clothing" purses by cutting them apart and sewing them together. Lowells mom is really optimistic, she says there are a lot of people that are into that "rescued clothing" thing. There is a sight, Etsy.com, where all they do is sell handcrafted items, they have a whole section for purses. I'm so excited! Some of the purses will not even look like they were made from clothing such as taking wool shirts and felting them and using that material to make a smaller purse. When I've made a few I'm going to be taking pictures of them and I'll post more.

One of my co-workers is always selling stuff on that sight, but it's all knit stuff.

That's a great idea! You really do have some kind of gift for that, I mean, damn... your first purse is freaking awesome, I use it all the time...unless I'm going somewhere that I think it might get really messy (like on charcoal days in my art class) then I'll take a darker purse that I don't really care about. Unfortunately, the purse has a couple dirty spots, but that's only to be expected with a light color... I love that thing ( ... )

I'm so happy you like your purse so much, it makes me smile knowing that. I doubt Lowells mom would take much at all. In fact, she's on the phone right now...she says like $2, lol. But price depends on how much mats cost and how long it takes me to make them and what type of purse (messenger bag or handbag etc.). Just a number off the top of my head probably $20/$30 bucks depending on everything. If mom wants to sell her stuff tell her to look up etsy.com, I don't think they take much out of what you make. It's all handcrafted stuff sold by the people that make them. She can look at what other people are making to help her judge prices. I think that's what I'll be doing. I need to ask mom about felting, I tried calling today but I guess you guys were busy, lol. If you come up with any good names let me know or any cool ideas =) I love you!! Call me!

Haha, didn't we tell you about Etsy? $20 is pretty cheap compared to some purses on Etsy. That's good though, I don't think people really buy the expensive purses..

Anyway, call later tonight, like around 8:30-9pm or something. All I can tell you about the felting process is that you need hot water, a certain kind of dish soap or something and a zip-up pillow case. I don't think that'll help you much, so just call later on. No body ever hears the phone in the morning because Ed's got the music turned up so loud you have to yell in order to be heard over it, lol.
