[Anime Review] Episode 19: October 26

Feb 23, 2012 21:23

Synopsis
It's time for the school festival! Surely nothing could go wrong, right? Uh... right?!?!

Art/Animation
• Yosuke's eyelashes in the classroom at the beginning made him look like a girl.

Voices
• Sun/Trombonist - I love her voice! I didn't like it when I played through her S.Link in the English version, but I love it here.
• Afro Senpai - I'm amused by his voice.

Music
• I should know the song she was practicing on the trombone, but I'm spacing on it. I know it's from at least the anime, if not the game. It's from the game, and, according to Nerdo, either "I'll Face Myself" or "Never More" (which share a melody). I'm thinking "I'll Face Myself," due to it's use as the BGM while Rise made up her mind.

Extras
• HATED Yu's "yankee" attitude
• I'm not sure if I like the fancy board for the pageants or not.
• Not sure why Sun is shown before Hierophant and Justice in the ED. It irrationally bothers me.
• No stinger in this episode, for some reason.

Changes from the game
• I don't remember there ever being a time in the game where the Velvet Room was empty. I'm wondering if this might be setting up something?
• I'm very disappointed that there was no mention of the fact that the rules stated that you couldn't back out.
• The obsession with King's Game wasn't in the game.
• I never took the girls' side, so I don't know how that's different.
• It wasn't Daisuke, but the class president in the group date with them.
• I don't remember Daisuke hating girls in the game.
• Obviously, the delivery wasn't originally there.
• I don't remember Kanami actually filming in Inaba in the game.
• I don't remember the game having Rise decide to go back into show business.

Final Thoughts
I really hate the way the anime is handling Kanji. If they're not vaguely implying he's going to rape the male characters, they're rubbing it in our faces that he has a crush on Naoto. I don't like it. I did like what was done with Sun's link, as well as the fortune-teller part of the festival. Of course, I disliked the pageants and the group date thing in the game anyway.

Of note, the delivery scene here bothered me. Did she order after they'd sat down, or was she assuming they wouldn't have anyone come? Still, there were only the three of them from the class there (it never explained why Kanji was hanging out with them), why order 6?

I have seen episode 20 already, but I was surprised even with just the title, that they were devoting an episode to the stuff at the Inn. My initial idea was that Nanako was kidnapped at the end of the episode, but that didn't end up happening. I'll go more into it for the next episode's review.

Very much thinking that Nerdo was right in that there'll be an OAV and/or DVD-only episode with the True End, because I don't think that there's enough space for it and the rest of the game proper. With our current episode count, and episode 25 being the last listed on TAN, here's my guess:
20 - Inn shenanigans
21 - Set-up and beginning of next dungeon
22 - End of next dungeon and fallout
23 - Revelation, start of final dungeon
24 - Rest of final dungeon
25 - Epilogue/Ending

There's no way they can fit True End in, unless they merge the Final Dungeon and the True Ending together (which could work), but I'm not sure at this point. If they do do this, it would be:
20 - Inn shenanigans
21 - Set-up and beginning of next dungeon
22 - End of next dungeon and fallout, Revelation at end of episode
23 - Most of Final Dungeon
24 - End of Final Dungeon, start of True End
25 - Rest of True End Epilogue/Ending
