Rome 2x06

Ok, that hurt! I had more then enough time to prepare for that but still - ouch! ;__;
Anyway, on with the review of the episode (probably the last one, as the series ended for me ;P)

Starting with playful!Brutus - still on coffe-high.

Brutus: I’ve been talking with the men. They’re sick of all this marching you put us through. We were plotting our revenge~ >:3
Cassius: That’s nice, honey. Now go play with the soldiers in the front - I’ve much paperwork to do.

Seeing that scene I knew I would be crying like a beaver by the episodes finale. The closer to his end, the more lovable Brutus got (if that was even possible)! He does have the most adorable smile. And it’s so sweet how he was obviously having a lot of fun being “soldierly”. He was acting like a boy given his first wooden sword *^_^*
Though integrating with common soldiers is a bit too OOC - didn’t he kill Caesar to (among other things) preserve the class division?

All the Brutus/Cassius interaction during this episode was great. A shame there was so little of them in the second season (even Timon had more screen time!!).They were behaving like a married couple :3 It makes me feel a bit better to know that even with Portia being cut from the script my boy had someone close to watch over him. He must have had a heart of gold to still love Cassius after all he and his mother put him through. But yeah, it was sweet how Cassius worried about him when he had his angst-phase. I think I forgave him too…
Fic please?

Cicero’s execution was handled perfectly. I’m glad it was Pullo who did it, because he could make it seem less …hostile? The absurdness of him asking for permission to take some of Cicero’s peaches before killing him was just brilliant. I may be upset by Cicero’s death (I was on the verge of tears ;_;), but it was a really beautiful scene.

I’m gonna miss Cicero. Especially in the second season he became so cool and elegant. Even if he wasn’t the bravest, he showed more class then anyone else on the show.

Kind of sucks that his last love letter to Brutus ended up as Lucius’ paper hat. The couriers back then were just as reliable as our Polish Post ;P

Octavia changed her mind about Agrippa suspiciously fast, didn’t she? Not that I complain, but it’s strange that one day she treats him as a pesky hobbit and cries after he’s gone the next… But I guess she haven’t had much time with the ultimatum I put on Agrippa and all... ;)

I’m glad she acted so unselfishly and saved the innocent Agrippa from the dire fate of being slashed with Maecenas

All together now: awwwww! *^__^*

Alas! Who should come to disturb them, but the bohemian eyecandy himself!

Maecenas: I can’t believe that you actually chose a girl over me!

Octavia: Tough luck bishounen - the boy is mine :P

Maecenas: Of course you know this means war!

I now have a feeling the whole Mark Antony/Octavia marriage thing will be his idea ;)
He’s so evil~

Meanwhile on the /other/ war:

Brutus: Happy birthday, Cassius! Sorry there’s no cake.
Cassius: So my choices are ...or death? T__T

Couldn't hold back a laughter at this one XDDD Foreshadowing much? I wonder if that was intentional...

I also liked the contrast between Brutus and Cassius being all lovey-dovey before the battle and Mark Antony and Octavian’s “cooperation”:

Antony: If you need to urinate, now would be the time.
Octavian: I’m fine, thank you.
Antony: Sure?
It’s so cute how he continues to treat him like a brat XD

The battle itself was kind of impressive. I sure hope that most of the troops were CG though, because it hurts me to think how much money has been spent to film a battle which had about 3-minutes screen time (/also/ less then Timon :P)

Brutus’ unwavering optimism made me believe that his coffee must have been filled with Prozac (or Jocasta’s Macedonian hemp ;P).

*Mark Antony’s forces are marching at them, their army is in ruin*
Cassius: *mortally wounded, bleeding all over* Hell of a birthday...
Brutus: Do not despair - the day is not done yet!

Unfortunately just as he was about to start whistling “Always look on the bright side of life” Cassius acted prosaically again and died. At which Brutus immediately switched back to his emo self and decided that life’s not worth living anymore. Awww, isn’t that romantic?

I like how they altered his death - nobody will call him a coward after going unarmored against the whole army! That was quite a heroic way to commit suicide - instead of falling on his sword he chose to go down fighting ;__;
The parallel to Caesar’s death was also a nice touch.

However the stealing of his ring was awful! I know Rome stays away the Shakespearian version, but there’s supposed to be at least some Mark Antony/Brutus necrophilia!

I DEMAND MARK ANTONY/BRUTUS NECROPHILIA!!!

Though, seeing what Rome-verse!Antony ordered to do with Cassius’ body, it may be better that he never found Brutus’...

Antony: I love the smell of oleum fervens in the morning~
