Potterdämmerung

The so awaited DH premiere came and went without the expected bang. I read the book, hated it, but without enough passion to capslock about it. Gloomy, boring and disappointing for most of the part. Had its highlights, but definitely to few in relation to the number of pages with nothing but the main trio.

It was obvious I would be disappointed. I’ve had this humongous list of things I wanted to happen, things I wanted to be explained, and while with the previous books I could brush off their not-happenings with supposing she’s saving it for the next book, the final book was just that - final. Nothing that wasn’t said in it, will never be said anywhere else.
So thank you very much Jo for building a mysterious relationship between Snape and the Malfoy family, making me obsessed about it and never explaining what exactly was its nature *is bitter*. It couldn’t have all been acting! Not Draco! ;_;

So yes, my favorite three ship fleet was sunk with one bloody Mary Sue.
I really hate inconsistency. When I watch bad movie sequels, I try to close my eyes on it, because it’s obvious that the second part was thought up only after the producers have counted their profits. But all this talk about Jo having the last chapter ready from the very start made me foolishly believe that she knew what she was doing - that she had it all thought up beforehand and was just taking her time with adding background plots and episodials. Yeah, Ginny’s diary suddenly turning up to be a horcrux should have warned me against such naivety two years ago… DH was full of such far-fetched revelations. The biggest one would be Snape’s motivation. Now I don’t mean to sound like a bitter fangirl, who tries to deny canon just because Lilly wasn’t Narcissa/Lucius/Draco (except I totally am ;P), but Snape was so NOT in love with her in OotP. I don’t think he even was in love with her in HBP - If he was I think he would treat Peter a bit more …revengefully? (he wanted to see Sirius dead just because of some past bullying. One would think Peter - in the end one of the main reasons why “the love of his life” died - should disserve at least equal hatred…). I thought that The Prince’s Tale was cute and touching and all, but I just can’t believe Snape’s “always”. It all felt too much like a last minute idea.

But maybe Jo had it all though up. Maybe for her Snape was just a background plot… After all, it’s only Harry’s fate that mattered -_-
I hate it that he’s the only character that got a decent death scene, and he didn’t even stay dead!

Ah well, I hear canon denial is quite a popular place to be these days…
The Malfoys after the battle were absolutely cute and it’s nice to know that there is enough love in the family as it is.

Another thing that bothered me: the return of Slytherin abuse. Silly me thought that HBP meant the end of the black/white characterization. The scene before the battle, when the Slytherin students unanimously refused to join Potter’s side (and to make it worse, she had to use my dear Pansy as their spokesman??) was the most horrible part of the book. If the whole house is evil, didn’t it occurred to anyone that it might be the school’s fault? That Slytherin ambition should be carefully directed and controlled by the teachers? But noo, let’s just cross them all out as lost causes when they’re only 11 - make Slytherin a ghetto to round up Voldemort-jugend, with no hope of redemption. Congratulations on the education system, wizarding world - almost as bad as ours.

And in the end Harry tries to shake it all of with a “it doesn’t matter where you’re sorted” - har har, good one. I really hope Albus Severus ends up a Slytherin ;)

Which brings me finally to something good from the book - OMG Scorpius!? Kawaiisugiru!! *^_^* The bad-ficness of the epilogue gets lost in the utter cuteness of Draco naming his son Scorpius. It’s so cool and shiny and Malfoy! I already love the little boy to pieces. And yeah, AS/S is the most brilliant pairing name ever! ;P

I thoroughly enjoyed Dumbledore’s character being revised. Much like the flashbacks from HBP. It’s almost ironic that my most hated character turned out to be the most interesting one only after he died. I still need to sort out my sentiments to him, since nothing changes that he was an asshole in the end, but it’s nice to have it acknowledged and taking that annoying saintness of his away really helped a lot.
I shall not turn my nose on some Gellert/Albus if I come across any, that’s for sure. Two brilliant youths dreaming of ruling the world together is instant win in my head. They’re a bit like I though Luciuss/Snape to be in their wilder days.

PS. My Irene icon could pass as a Malfoy, no? ;)
