You like me, too

“Ne, Lei-chan, this one is from you right?” Inoo Kei asked as he munched on one of the chocolates he had received that day.

It was Valentine’s Day, and girls in their school were in commotion. He, Kei, got a lot of admirer so most of the girls were running after him. It was tiresome, really. Being chased by girls early in the morning was too bothersome. He barely managed to escape from those girls. But luck was on his side, he made the girls to lose track of him.

With disgust written on her face, Sakamoto Lei hissed. “Why on earth would I give you chocolates?!”

“Eh? So this one is not from you?” he assured, looking at her and back to the chocolate he was eating. “So, I am not eating them.”

Lei rolled her eyes before sitting on the highest step of that staircase. Both of them were on the emergency stairs of the school. They frequently hanged out there, most probably killing time. When Lei isn’t feeling like listening to deadly boring lessons, she’ll just go there and was always surprised to see Kei there, too. That’s how they became best of friends. That staircase has been a witness of their friendship.

“You’re heartless, Kei. Don’t you know how girls would feel if they only knew that you’re throwing those chocolates?” Lei asked, bugging his conscience.

Kei pouted cutely. “But those chocolates are not from you!”

A crumpled paper came flying towards him which he easily dodged. “Don’t be so childish, Kei. I won’t give you chocolates.”

“But, today’s Valentine’s Day!” he protested.

“And so?” she folded her arms around her tummy.

“Gimme some chocolates.” He demanded, giving her his cutest smile.

She hissed. “You got plenty of chocolates but you’re still wanting for more? Ahh! I got a better idea!” Lei walked to the emergency stair’s door that would lead to the hallway. She was about to turn the knob but Kei pulled her before she could even do it.

“Hey! What are you doing?!” alarmed, he asked.

“I’m gonna call your girls so you can have the chocolates you have been drooling over.” She said as a matter of fact.

“SO YOU’RE PLANNiNG TO KILL ME?!?!”

Lei laughed her heart out.

It is already 17:00. Most of the students already went home. This time is the right time for Kei to walk out the school-with nothing to worry about. Well, it’s really pain in the ass if you’re too popular among the girls.

They, Lei and Kei, were walking side by side in the hallway, heading home.

“Ooops!” kei spurted, stopping from his pace. Lei gave him a questioning look. “I forgot the chocolates I’ll be giving in the orphanage! Wait for me in the entrance, Lei!” He handed her his bag and ran back to their room without a word from Lei.

Jeez, that guy!

During Valentine’s day, Kei is already used of receiving a lot of chocolates. Since he can’t have all of them, he thought of giving those chocolates to the orphanage where he can make children happy. He has been doing it all along. And just like this year, lei and he would be heading the orphanage and donate the chocolates he got from girls.

Every girl must have given her homemade chocolate to the guy she likes but not this particular girl-Lei. Damn! This is the first I’ll ever give a chocolate to a guy! Jeez, but how would I give it to him,, huh?! She just can’t give it to him. There’s no way in hell that she’ll do that thing! Never!

But, how? She asked herself.

With a deep sigh, she sat on the bench near the entrance. She never thought that having someone you like would be this bothersome. Then she looked intently at Kei’s bag that she put on her lap.
If she only knew, she would never let herself be in love.

I hate this!

“Ne, Lei-chan, do you like me?” Kei asked out of the blue. It was Sunday afternoon, since they’re both free; they decided to go out together.

Lei felt stiffened with Kei’s sudden question. “Huh? What the heck are you asking?”

He smiled widely, standing right in front of her. “Oh, nothing. I just received a chocolate last valentine’s day.”

“Well, you got a lot, right?” she uttered.

“But this one is so controversial.” Kei said, breathing deeply. “The sender says, ‘making chocolates is too bothersome, but liking you is much bothersome. I hate you for making me like you!’”

Lei drank nervously on her drink. “a-and that’s from?”

And he answered her by pulling her hand, walking with her inside the amusement park. “Let’s have some fun today.”

Well, that letter was the one she made! The letter she made for him!

White day. So this is the opposite day for Valentine’s Day. It’s now the turn of guys to return what they have gotten last February 14. but of course, only to the girl they like. They are supposed to give something white or the like. But for kei, he seemed not to be aware of what’s with the date.

Don’t be surprised, Lei. That’s Kei anyway. He’s a public figure and he can’t be owned by anyone. Lei talked to herself as Kei approached her, pulling an empty seat near her.

“Yoh!” Kei greeted her, with his usual smile. That sweet smile that captured her oh-so innocent heart.

“Hello.” She smiled back, well, faking a smile though. She’s kinda disappointed to her best friend. Or maybe disappointed that Kei won’t ever return her feelings for him? Well, maybe that’s the case, the truth.

“Do you have plans for today?” he asked.

She paused for a while. “Etto, I don’t need to be home early so I think I am free.”

“That’s good!” Kei chirped. “Let’s go out.”

Lei didn’t protest. She just let Kei lead her to somewhere. If she’s going to be asked, she’ll prefer this. Kei, unknown of her feelings but is not attached to anybody than knowing that he’s in love with somebody. This one is much better. They can be best friends forever, enjoying each other’s company.

“Ne, Lei.” Kei called her. “I think I knew who was the one who send me those chocolates.”

“Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?!” She almost spilled her drinks.

“Huh?” Kei was indeed shock of her sudden outburst.

“I-I mean, w-who?”

Kei faced her, their feet were already touching. He gave her his warm smile and she can’t help herself but blush, knowing that Kei is so closed to her. “She is….” Kei looked up at the sky.

Everything around her sounded nothing. And all she can hear was the fast beating of her heart.

Moments passed, when Kei suddenly kissed her on the forehead. “I love the fact that you like me…too.” he whispered before planting a soft kiss on her lips.
