Pairing: Jongdae/Yixing
Genre: Romance
Word Count: 1,443 words
Summary: Yixing asks Jongdae for advice on piercings.
(ps I'm aware new piercings don't actually work like this but just work with me here lmao)
“Does it hurt?”
Jongdae looks up from the Mandarin practice book in his lap, giving Yixing a questioning eyebrow raise from his cross-legged position on his bed. “Does what hurt?”
“Getting your ears pierced.”
“Ah.”
Setting his book to the side, Jongdae hums thoughtfully and scoots over just enough for Yixing to sit down beside him. “Wouldn’t it be a better idea to ask Zitao or Kris?”
Yixing frowns and sinks into the mattress, tucking his knees loosely into his chest. “The stylist said I just have to pierce one ear, though.”
“So?”
“And you have one ear pierced.” Yixing curls in his toes and watches them form wrinkles in the cotton sheets, pressing his cheeks into his knees to hide an embarrassing blush that’s threatening to spread across his face.
Jongdae self-consciously finds himself fingering the small black stud set into his left ear, the one he only leaves in at night to keep the hole from closing up, since he’s not allowed to wear it during promotions. “It doesn’t hurt that much, really,” he says, watching the other with a puzzled expression on his face. “There’s an initial sharp sting, and then it might ache a little but that’s about it.”
Yixing doesn’t reply, his face still half hidden between his knees and his eyes downcast, and Jongdae narrows his eyes suspiciously, pursing his lips in amusement as he leans in closer to Yixing. “That’s not really what you’re worried about, is it.”
It’s not a question, instead a statement that’s lightened by the playful teasing evident in Jongdae’s voice, but much to his surprise Yixing doesn’t respond with a normal, easy reply. Instead, he looks over at Jongdae, turning and resting the side of his head on his knees, his expression somewhat nervous and his cheeks still faintly tinged with red.
After a long moment, Yixing speaks up shyly, his voice hesitant. “That stud you’re always wearing,” he starts, nodding in confirmation when Jongdae motions questionably at his own earring. “Is there... is it part of a pair?”
Jongdae blinks once and then nods slowly. “Yeah, there’s another earring that matches, but obviously I can only wear one, so...” He trails of. “Why?”
“May I have it?”
“Eh?”
“The other earring.” Yixing rubs a hand against the back of his neck, a nervous habit. “Would you mind if I used it?”
Jongdae laughs, throwing Yixing a sly grin. “What, you mean like couple earrings?” He’s joking, but Yixing bites at his lip and doesn’t respond. Jongdae’s smile falters.
“Yixing?”
“I-” The older man’s face turns beet red. “S-sorry.” Without another word, he hurriedly unfolds himself, hops off the bed and scurries from the room, leaving the door open behind him in his haste.
Jongdae's not entirely sure how long he sits there, his mind spinning with new information, but it’s long after Jongin and Junmyeon have returned to the room and are fast asleep that Jongdae remembers that he’s supposed to be doing the same.

They’ve all got busy schedules today, but Yixing has a separate appointment for his piercing and one of their stylists comes to pick him up at around eight. Even so, he does his best to avoid Jongdae all morning and it’s not until Yixing’s at the entrance slipping on his shoes that Jongdae manages to corner him, awkwardly slipping something into the back of Yixing’s MCM bag.
“Don’t look at it until you get there,” he tells him, his eyes carefully looking anywhere other than Yixing’s face and the tips of his ears tinged with pink. He gives Yixing a light shove towards the door and then disappears into the kitchen, leaving Yixing to stare after him dumbly until the stylist tugs gently on his arm and reminds him of their appointment.
In the silence of the car ride, Yixing hugs his backpack in his lap, mulling over his thoughts in the silence and resisting the urge to pull out whatever Jongdae had left him. It’s not until they’ve almost arrived that Yixing finally reaches into his bag, his fingers closing around a small velvet box. He pulls it out, turning it over in his palm and tracing the clasp with a shaky finger, but he doesn’t open it. Instead, he holds it tightly in his palms as the stylist parks and leads him into the building, his heart jumping nervously in a way that Yixing is pretty sure has nothing to do with the upcoming appointment and a lot to do with the implications behind the jewelry box in his hands.
Nana’s is famous for giving piercings to celebrities, Kris and Zitao included in the list of past customers, and Yixing easily gets distracted by the endless selections of body jewelry, from simple, multi-colored stud earring selections to large gold loops and metal bars that go right through the top part of the ear.
He’s lost somewhere in a sea of conch earring displays when the stylist pulls him aside, nudging him towards the back of the store. The store owner sits him down on a stool and gets to work quickly, swabbing Yixing’s left ear with an alcohol-soaked cotton ball. After that, the man runs through the procedure seamlessly, pulling out the piercing gun and fitting it onto Yixing’s ear.
It stings, but Jongdae was right and the pain fades quickly, and before long Yixing is being ushered out of the store and back into the vehicle, with instructions to leave the new piercing alone for three weeks. Naturally, he doesn’t listen.
His stylist is in front of him in the passenger seat, so it’s easy enough for him to pry open the velvet box from Jongdae without her knowing. Inside, Yixing is unsurprised to find a small, black earring; identical to the one Yixing’s seen in Jongdae’s ear countless times in the past. There’s an empty slot where the other earring should be, and Yixing smiles softly to himself as he carefully reaches up and takes out his beginning stud, sliding the black one into his new piercing instead. He puts the other earring inside the box and then snaps it shut, tucking it back into the back pocket of his bag.
When he makes it back, the others are already holed up in the practice rooms, going over the steps for Growl and perfecting final touches for the comeback stage that’s in just a few days, and Yixing slips in beside them, thankful for the opportunity to focus completely on the routine and definitely not on Jongdae’s eyes following his movements every time he fingers lightly at the new accessory on his ear.

“Let me see,” Jongdae gets a hold of him that evening back in the dorms, settling down next to him in Yixing’s room long after the other members have gotten their own look at his new piercing. Yixing sits still, his shoulders tense as Jongdae leans in next to him, his expression unreadable as he stares at his own earring now embedded in Yixing’s earlobe.
“You used it after all,” he says, and Yixing nods carefully, trying to peak at Jongdae’s reaction from the corner of his eyes.
“Do you... like it...?” His voice shakes just slightly on the last word and he immediately clamps his mouth shut.
Jongdae doesn’t answer right away, instead reaching up to press gently on the new piercing with his index finger and thumb, with movements soft and hesitant but growing stronger when Yixing dares to lean into the touch, allowing Jongdae to press his whole palm against Yixing’s temple and thread his fingers through Yixing’s short, brown hair. Jongdae reaches out another hand to cradle Yixing’s chin in his hands, then leans forward.
“I love it,” He says and then he’s closing the distance, and Yixing’s own hand flies up to rest just behind Jongdae’s ear where he can feel the other’s own earring digging into his palm. Jongdae seals their lips with a note of determination and Yixing is happy to comply, his eyelids fluttering closed as he pulls Jongdae in.
They don’t pull away until much later, with Yixing flat on his back and Jongdae hovering above him, his cheeks flushed and both of them gasping for air, and Jongdae grins and lowers down onto his side next to Yixing, teasingly tugging once on Yixing’s earring with his teeth. “I think I could get used to this,” He says, leaning his head against Yixing’s shoulder. “Though couple earrings is a little cheesy, even for you.”
Yixing snorts. “You evidently liked the idea too,” he replies, and Jongdae rolls back on top of Yixing and kisses him again.
