Summary: Myungsoo needed to rise up to the chase. A fic based on The Chaser MV. Written fo infinitesanta

There he was. His Sungyeol. Riding a motorcycle in the dead of night with another guy. He could recognize that his choding with his childhood friend, Dongwoo. It's only been a day since they last talked but it felt like forever - like time had stopped for him. They had an argument last night about Sungyeol's ex. And Myungsoo's being a bastard, now following the other silently, stealthily.

He did not know what to say to Sungyeol, did not know where to start. He’d mentioned a lot of unnecessary things, some even hurtful ones. But now, he's just there inside his red, beat up Audi.

70km/h.

Following his boyfriend (or is it ex?) have fun, riding the two-wheeled engine. It was his idea to stop Sungyeol from keeping his small thrill trip since it once resulted the lanky boy to injure both of his arms for months.

80km/h.

Almost a year after that experience, Sungyeol seemed to looked so free with Dongwoo. They were going fast. Too fast, Myungsoo had to catch up. He set his gear to three and started pressing down on the accelerator.

90km/h

Sungyeol and Dongwoo were going faster and faster, Myungsoo had to catch up, he needed to. He will, and when the motorcycles die down, he'll walk up to Sungyeol and god knows what he'll say but he needed his lover back.

110km/h.

He'll say sorry. He'll kneel in front him. He'll practically do anything.

130km/h.

There was a screeching sound, and the wheels of his car swerved and the next thing Myungsoo knew was that he's up in the air, rolling and rolling as his car was thrown off in an incredible speed. Then everything went black.

-------------------

Ring Ring Ring

Myungsoo opened his eyes and turned his head towards the alarm clock on his bedside table.

6:45. December 21, 2012.

He sat up and rubbed his eyes which are swollen and red from last night.

Last night.

The words struck something and he whipped his head to his other side, glancing over to check on his boyfriend… who wasn’t there. His side of the bed was empty, pillow not even wrinkled. Even his boyfriend's bedside table was empty; no cell phone, no notebook, no glasses. It, then, dawned on him.

Sungyeol was gone.

It was a simple argument. One of which that could’ve been easily solved with a simple talk. But he would not listen. He didn't. Sungyeol tried so hard to explain his side after he patiently listened as Myungsoo ranted out his jealousy, how he thinks Sungyeol was going behind his back.

"What were you doing there with him? I told you, I don't like seeing you alone with him, Sungyeol!"

"But you know we're close! And you always said okay when we're with--"

"It's okay with Hoya, because at least there's another person with you two and you won't dare try anything on Hoya-hyung!"

"Are you saying you don't trust me--"

"I trust you that's why I allowed you to see him, but with Hoya so he can watch you! But no! You're not with Hoya-hyung yesterday! And what do I see? You and him, wrapped around in each other's arms?!"

"No, you don't understand. I was just co--"

"Shit Sungyeol! You know how I feel about him being close to you!"

"I know, I know. But he's just--"

"He's your ex, Yeollie! He's your goddamn ex whom left you for another! Come on! And when you got together with me, he comes back to try and take you away?!"

"He's not! Myungsoo, come on li--"

"Damn it! You still love him, don't you?! Don't you--"

Slap.

Myungsoo stood in shock. Never did Sungyeol hit him, even when they're fooling around as friends. It was always him who was hitting the other. What had just happened was the first time Sungyeol raised a hand on him. He looked at Sungyeol. The other was standing, hands shaking and eyes misty. He reached out to pull the other close but Sungyeol stepped back, eyes full of hurt and his body trembling.

"H-how dare you…"

"Sungyeol.. B-baby, I'm sorry. Come here..."

"NO!"

Myungsoo stood with wide-eyes, hands poised to reach out to the other, but Sungyeol was backing away from him.

"Y-you horrible... piece of..." A deep breath, "I... I didn't know... You don't trust me."

"I... I do.."

"Shut up! I’ve had enough!"

And that’s that. Before Myungsoo could do anything, Sungyeol stomped to his side of the bed, taking his wallet, his phone, and glasses on the top of the table before turning his back and running away from Myungsoo. The sound of the door slamming against the frame was the only sound of 'goodbye.'

And here he is again, back to the present. He glanced back at his clock which read, ‘7:00 a.m.’ Cold and alone in a queen sized bed he was supposed to be sharing with his lover. Who was supposed to be sprawled out next to him, and was supposed to be just waking up as Myungsoo finished brewing the coffee (of course Sungyeol taught him so we won't have to get up early, that lazy ass) and the smell would linger everywhere in their small apartment. But now, Sungyeol was nowhere to be found.

Myungsoo bustled out of the classroom, file folder under his arm as he moved towards a free bench in a pavilion outside their building. He's got to check his next class. Normally, it was Sungyeol who did it for him. Meeting him on the same spot he was sitting on now, telling the other what time and what room he was supposed to be in for his next class. But there's no Sungyeol now.

He tried to contact his lover, he really did. But Sungyeol was not answering his calls, nor his mails. He’d asked around his choding's classmates, but none of them had any clue. They said he had not been in any of his classes and it was nearing two in the afternoon.

Putting his worry aside, Myungsoo took out the paper for his schedules and memorized the last class he's having today.

As he walked towards the building, he suddenly remembered the dream he had last night, the one where Sungyeol and Dongwoo was out in the streets on their motorcycles, racing against each other. And he was there, following behind in his car. Myungsoo shivered as he recalled the last part. He crashed. Was it a sign? Should he go and look for Sungyeol tonight?

-------------------

A tall red head was leaning against a wall, a cell phone in hand, watching a slightly shorter boy who was facing a large prism.

"Are you hesitating?" The redhead asked, throwing the phone up and down his open palm.

The shorter boy turned to him, a scowl on his pretty face. "I'm not. It's his time. "

"Then why are you not putting his key inside?"

"I... I don't know. Something about this doesn't feel right."

"So, let's do it again."

The redhead then caught the phone, before pulling on the hood of his denim jacket and walking with his back turned away from the shorter boy.

-------------------

Myungsoo was out here again, inside his beat-up, red Audi. He was on the side of the same road from his dream. Glancing at his side mirror, he can see two figures zooming in. It must've been them. And it was. His heart raced as his eyes focus on Sungyeol's face as the tall boy rode a large motorbike, following Dongwoo's larger one.

He started the engine and followed the tail of his lover as they sped a few meters away. It’s crucial that he talked to Sungyeol. Myungsoo knew he made a huge mistake in doubting the other guy. Sungyeol knew how it was to have his heart broken so he would not do the same to Myungsoo. But he was stupid. He was so blinded by his insecurities against Nam Woohyun that he did not bother to listen to Sungyeol.

70km/h.

Nam Woohyun is Sungyeol's ex-boyfriend. He was the perfect person Myungsoo had wished he could be. The guy was smart, athletic, chic, and fashionable. He's the perfect poster boy with the perfect attitude and perfect body. So Sungyeol was lucky to have had such a high-class boyfriend. But with the high-class boyfriend came the high-end heartbreak when Woohyun found he was attracted to the Busan Wonder, Lee Howon, who was unfortunately, Sungyeol's cousin.

80km/h.

It was a hard time for both of them - for Sungyeol, the pain of not being enough for someone who was perfect, and for Myungsoo, the pain of knowing that he would not be the perfect one for his broken best friend.

But he tried his best. Myungsoo had admitted to Sungyeol about liking him days after his choding had recovered from his heartbreak.

90km/h.

"I'm scared..."

"About what?"

"About falling for you..."

"Why?"

"B-because I might use you for rebound, Myung... And I don't want that."

"Don't worry, I'll be patient."

110km/h.

And patient he was. He waited, wooed, and went after Sungyeol for months. Almost nearing 10 months of pursuing. On a fateful day, 21st of August, Sungyeol finally confessed that he loved him back.

130km/h.

Myungsoo didn't notice the rush of air as his car wheeled off the road and into the air. He was being so wrapped in his memories that he did not notice that he sped past Sungyeol and was thrown in the air. He spun round and round, head hitting the walls of his car until everything went black.

-------------------

"I turned back time again. And he failed."

The pretty boy with straight, silky, black hair sighed, his hands clutching on a key.

"I know... But..."

"But something doesn't feel right again, Sungjong?"

Sungjong let out a frustrated sigh once more and turned towards a tall red head.

"Gyu-hyung... Please, even I'm confused here."

"Sungjong, you are death. You wait here, I stop time to fetch the key, hand it to you, and you place it on inside the triangle, back to our maker."

Sungjong stared down at the key on his hand, brows furrowed.

"I know Sunggyu-hyung. B-but... The key is beating. It's... It’s yearning for something. And I know that its owner won't go in peace hyung."

Sunggyu, the tall red head, groaned and made his way out of the white pristine place once more.

"I'll do it again."

He pulled on the hood of his denim jacket and dissolved into thin air, and Sungjong just stared at the key in his hand as it slowly vanished.

Ring Ring Ring

Myungsoo opened his eyes and turned his head towards the alarm clock on his bedside table.

6:45. December 21, 2012.

He sat up and rubbed his eyes which are swollen and red from last night.

Last night.

Last night... Last night! He sat up in his bed in shock before looking around and checking where he is. He glanced at the things around his apartment. The bed, the desk, the kitchen... His clothes from yesterday were not on the floor, meaning, he was dreaming again.

But was it really a dream?

It felt so real. The way he hit his head on the window of his car, the way he reeled off the road in an incredible speed, the way Sungyeol looked, perched on a motorcycle... Sungyeol… Sungyeol!

Myungsoo scrambled off the bed to grab onto his cell phone. Surely, maybe, Sungyeol will have answered him by now. He was full of hope only for frown as he saw his wallpaper with no notifications.

7:00 a.m. December 21, 2012.

'Wait..! December 21? Was it December 21 yesterday?' Myungsoo thought as he got off the bed. It was confusing. If it was a dream, it was too vivid. Too detailed. He lived his whole day in a dream, it must seem. It's the only logical explanation there could be. Unless, some kind of freaky friday thing happened and he was back in time.

He shook his head, chuckling from his ridiculous thoughts, and started to get a move on. It's today. It's just one day, but he needed to get his Sungyeol back.

-------------------

Sunggyu stared at the car wreck. He can see the owner of the key fighting for his breath. Blood was starting too pool on the place where he hit his head. The boy looked up at him, trying to move his arms and reached out to him. His lips were forming some kind of name.

'Sungyeol...'

Sunggyu then chuckled, remembering the owner of the cell phone he was playing with a while a ago, before turning back on the wreck with the barely breathing boy. His hood was still on as he waved his right hand and slowly, the place dissolved into a black void.

In front of the redhead was a large clock with roman numerals, a clock of sixty seconds. With a wave of his left hand, the clock's one and only hand ticked backwards, slowly, until it reached the number twelve
numeral once more and started moving right.

-------------------

Myungsoo felt the wave of déjà vu flow through his mind slowly as he waited by the curb of the road in his dream. He knew in the back of his head that Sungyeol and Dongwoo would speed past him and something in his gut is telling him to move places. But he stayed still as he saw two figures from the side mirror. And then with a jolt, he started his engine.

70km/h.

He trailed on Sungyeol and Dongwoo, knowing for some reason, that the two would speed up and Myungsoo won't be able to catch up. He racked his brain for an alternative. He needed an idea where to go. He needed Sungyeol desperately.

80km/h.

When the two were out of his vision, Myungsoo was internally panicking. Why could he not remember anything about Sungyeol's stop ove-. There. A stop over. Myungsoo shifted his gear to three and sped off.

90km/h.

He was right. They were here. Of course, they would need gas and they needed to stop over at a gasoline station.

110km/h.

As the red Audi came into view, Sungyeol perked up from his place on top of the motorcycle as he waited for the gas refill. It was Myungsoo's red Audi. And his heart sped up. Myungsoo finally found him. Just the thought of his lover finally catching up to him and doing the first move to bring him back put a smile on Sungyeol's face.

130km/h.

Myungsoo was so delighted. From his view inside the car, he could see Sungyeol sitting up and greeting him with a smile. They were okay. His lover was there. Just right at the corner, greeting him with a smile. He could not wait to finally hug him. Tell the other how sorry he is and how much he loves and trusts him. This was it. They both smiled to each other, not expecting a rushing car to slam against the side of Myungsoo's Audi, sending it off into the air, tumbling and turning around. All Myungsoo could see then was Sungyeol's smiling face. And everything went black.

-------------------

Sungjong frowned as the key slowly materialized on his open palm. And he felt a tap on his shoulder. Sunggyu was back.

"I tried and he failed again. It means something Sungjong."

It was time for the owner of the key to return to the maker.

"But he was so close hyung... So close."

"I know kiddo."

Sunggyu's small eyes widened as he felt arms wind around him. Sungjong was hugging him, the other's hand clutching tightly on his back.

"I don't give the heart to send him away when he was so close, hyung..." The smaller boy mumbled, his voice muffled by the material of Sunggyu's jacket.

"I know kiddo, but--"

"Please! Please!"

He sighed. Really, Sunggyu couldn't deny this kid anything.

"Fine. Last one. The last one and if he fails again, that's it."

Ring Ring Ring

Myungsoo opened his eyes and turned his head towards the alarm clock on his bedside table.

6:45. December 21, 2012.

He sat up and rubbed his eyes which are swollen and red from last night.

Last night.

Myungsoo stood up and checked the alarm clock once more.

6:50. December 21, 2012.

It was strange. He had the same dream again, but this time he progressed. He lived the whole day in this dream again but it progressed to finally catching up with Sungyeol in a gas refill station before everything went black.

The feeling was scary, like another déjà vu, but eerie. Had he been on this place pondering on the same things? His mind was all rumbled up and confused as to believe whether or not he's been being played at by people. Reaching out for his phone, Myungsoo frowned and recalled the past few days. It seemed it was all... repeating, where one will see the progression of his chase.

He shook his head, it's absurd, he thought. And even if it was a dream, he wanted to dream again to see if ever he and Sungyeol will finally get back together. Speaking of Sungyeol. He checked his phone only to see the same wallpaper with no notices. Deciding it would not hurt, Myungsoo sent Sungyeol another message.

Something told Myungsoo not to wait by the curb anymore and just wait by the gas station in his dream. It was a gut instinct which was weird, but he figured that it would not hurt to try. He drove on, setting his gear to three and pressed down the accelerator.

He was handling the wheel well as he drove past the curb he dreamt of last night, and proceeded to park inside the gas station.

He couldn't wait to finally see Sungyeol after a day (it felt more than a day to be honest) of bad argument.

--------------

Sunggyu looked down on the boy struggling for breath inside the impaired red vehicle. The boy was glancing up at him, still mouthing the name 'Sungyeol’ when something caught Sunggyu's eye.

This boy's phone, the wallpaper was quite familiar. It was the same as the one on the phone he got from another boy who was careless and left his phone in a coffee shop.

It was them, this barely breathing boy and the tall careless one, heads together with grins on their faces. And something tugged on Sunggyu's chest. It must be the feeling Sungjong was having as he held this boy's Key of Life.

The red head knelt down, murmuring against the bleeding boy's ear.

"Don't screw this up. This is your last chance."

------------

Myungsoo waited. It was past fifteen minutes since he was last here on the parking space of the gas station and he was getting worried. Will Sungyeol come?

70km/h.

Twenty minutes. What was taking them so long? Did Sungyeol get into an accident? But he's not feeling anything. He's used to feeling something dreadful when Sungyeol was in and sort of danger. But now he was just... jittery.

80km/h.

That was it; he can't take this any longer. He'll wait by the curb again. Myungsoo started his engine. And was just about to reverse out when two motorcycles came into view, each moving towards a free stall for refill. And Myungsoo immediately went out of his car.

90km/h.

Sungyeol perked up on his seat on the motorcycle as he waited for it to be refilled. There, on the parking space, was Myungsoo's red Audi. And a smile formed on his face as his lover got out of the driver's seat. It has been a long ride.

110km/h.

It was now or never.

Sungyeol was just there, getting off from his bike, smiling at Myungsoo. He was running slowly, catching up to his tall lanky lover who was also running towards him. It was the most blissful feeling when Myungsoo felt Sungyeol's arms around him as he wrapped his arms around his lover. It was perfect. They needed no words, no apologies. Just a hug and it relayed all he wanted to say, and all the other wanted to hear. And he can feel Sungyeol's reply.

'I'm sorry.'

'I love you.'

0km/h. Stop.
