Chapter 6

After Ruki left, Reita found himself with nothing to do and a lot of free time on his hands. That’s why he liked to sleep in late when he had no practice, he thought. It keeps other thoughts away but the chat with Ruki made everything come back again, only even stronger. He knew he had managed to tune his feelings down a bit lately but it still hurt a lot. Reita wasn’t mad with Ruki though. He could never be mad with him. Their front man was his best friend after all and he just did what any best friend would have done, listened. He blamed fate though…

So with nothing to do he decided he might as well get some work done. After all they needed stuff for the new album and his mood then and there promised to bring some inspiration. So he took his bass, tried to relax and gently started plucking some strings, just playing a bit, creating the atmosphere, when the phone rang.

“Moshi moshi” Reita answered, not even bothering to look at the caller’s ID.

“Hi, Reita-kun, just dropped into town and was wondering if you’d like to go out and get some drinks. I invited Kai-kun but he had stuff to do and brushed me away, I know better than to invite the two lovebirds and I figured that if you’d come Ruki would probably come too. I don’t mind either way though… So how about it?”

Miyavi never did change, did he? He just finished a string of big concerts and he should be just lying in bed not doing anything but here he was asking Reita out. And the worst part was that Reita loved and hated to go out with the man, all at the same time, especially when his feelings had been stirred up like that. But he couldn’t bring himself to refuse either because…

“Reita, you still there man?” Miyavi asked a bit annoyed, apparently.

“Yeah, sorry, I spaced out for a bit. Sure, I’ll come. This time I’ll pick you up though. Last time I almost had a heart attack when you showed up. My neighbors can’t handle that again.”

After laughing for a bit at Reita’s comment Miyavi just said ok and hang up, leaving Reita wondering what he should do next. Trying to relax was obviously not gonna work in this situation and he wasn’t really the type to concentrate on a lot of other stuff either just to keep his mind away. Somehow, his thoughts always got the best of him. And this time they were painful. So he just decided that a bath would just have to do the trick. He needed one before getting dressed anyway and there was plenty of time left before he actually had to go out.

The bath really was relaxing. During the years, he couldn’t help picking up from Ruki some stuff. One of those was burning a bit of incense in the bathroom. It really did help soothe the nerves. Of course Reita held back on the quantity and the candles, after all Ruki was his friend, but sheesh, with that many candles he’d probably end up burning the house one day…

A long bath really did help. He was so much more calm about everything, well at least until he got to meet Miyavi at least, because the man was anything but calm. He was boisterous and enthusiastic and flirty and extravagant…ok, maybe everything with him was a bit over the top. And what hurt Reita the most was that Miyavi was a playboy, a well-known playboy actually. The digits from both hands were enough to count the man he hadn’t tried to get into his bed and unfortunately, the Gazette members didn’t figure there and well, as for women, if she looked nice she was doomed. That was Reita’s opinion and he was known for being quite a levelheaded guy so the truth was not far away.

He had pretty good reasons to think that way too. One was the fact that Miyavi had actually tried to seduce every single member of the Gazette, starting with Kai, who didn’t fall for it, up to Reita. Well, Aoi an Uruha didn’t actually count because even Miyavi wasn’t that blind not to see how well their relationship went, which still didn’t stop him from flirting quite a bit. Second reason was exactly the incident Reita had mentioned over the phone. One night, he and Miyavi were supposed to join the Alice Nine guys for some drinks and Miyavi came to pick him up. Reita was ready and waiting and Miyavi was late. Well, that wasn’t that unusual seeing whom he was waiting for but what did surprise him were the voices in the hallway. He could swear that one of them was Miyavi. After another five minutes it really started to get loud and Reita opened the door to see a man pinning Miyavi on the opposite wall, the singer just grinning widely and his neighbor, a very pretty woman by the way, shouting at them from the door of her own apartment. It didn’t take a genius to figure out who the man was and what had been happening there…

Reita just focused on getting his friend out of trouble though, apologizing to the couple, well former couple from then on, and getting Miyavi into his apartment.

Even now his neighbor would sometimes ask about the “extravagant” young man she had met a while back. It pissed off Reita enormously.

The moment he laid eyes on Miyavi that night was like everything was put on fire again… yes, Miyavi hadn’t changed a bit and Reita was surprised to find out that maybe he preferred it that way. Well, actually he had had a hunch all along. That was probably the reason why…

But a couple of hours later, sitting on a bar stool next to Miyavi, Reita’s train of thoughts had changed quite a lot. The whole night, Meev had been well, how could Reita put it in words…oh yes, quiet, fucking quiet and it scared the hell out of the bassist. Well, of course they had exchanged plenty laughs and the conversation between them didn’t lack either and they had also danced, Reita trying to focus on anything else but the man sitting so close to him and it had worked…Still, Miyavi hadn’t flirted with anyone the whole night or danced with anyone else, even when some really pretty girls had approached them, and that got Reita worried. So he decided honesty is the best policy.

“Miyavi, is something wrong?” Reita asked.

“No, what could be wrong?” Miyavi asked not that surprised actually.

“Well, how should I put this…you’re usually more outgoing?” Reita tried.

“Ha?”

“Oh, fuck, you just flirt with every single nice piece of ass that passes in front of you, excuse my language.” Reita gave up.

“Oh…actually I have something to confess to you. But maybe we should get back to your apartment. I promise to not say a word to the neighbors.” Miyavi said grinning.

Reita was a bit too concerned to think about that so he just agreed. The ride back to his place, in the silence of the car, he really felt awkward. And then, as soon as they got in, after the both of them sat down, Miyavi suddenly started.

“You know, I lied to you.”

“Ha?” Reita just asked surprised.

“Today, I lied to you. You’re the first person I called, not Kai or anyone else…”

“Ok, Reita cut in, that’s not something to be so serious about, now is it?”

“I’m not finished. Reita, about my flirting…”

“Oh, it doesn’t matter, it’s just you, I’m pretty used to it by now anyway.” Reita didn’t like the tone and the man’s serious eyes so he just cut in, hoping to change the topic, dreading what would come.

“Listen, Reita, can you just let me finish please?” Miyavi said, apparently a bit bothered.

Reita just nodded.

“Since a few weeks back I’ve stopped trying to get everyone in my bed because I’ve suddenly realized something. There’s only one person I want sharing that bed with me.”

Reita’s heart hurt. What was this, he started thinking. Did god really just not look at him at all? Because really, this was the last straw. The person that made his heart burn and his will to somehow disappear into oblivion, the one man that he could never have because he just thought Miyavi would never belong to anyone, the man he had actually said no to while trying to hold back his anger because he was not gonna be just another one night stand, damn it, that man was actually saying this to him? Throwing all his hard work out the window? The nights he had tried to convince himself that saying no was the best answer because Miyavi would never be just his anyway…And there he was again, holding his pain and his anger back, listening to the confession of that man. But it was just too hard to bear, he just had to make him stop, make him go away.

“Listen, Meev, I don’t get why you’re telling me this because it’s pretty obvious to me you can have anyone you want.”

Miyavi grinned at that.

“You think so? My charms didn’t work on Ruki, Kai or…you for that matter.” Miyavi was looking straight into his eyes. It was as if Reita was cornered. Reita was praying that Miyavi was not talking about Ruki or Kai because that would be…

“Reita, I can’t promise you I won’t flirt with anyone, that’s my nature, but I can promise to be faithful, truly faithful.”

“Listen, Meev, if you’re gonna ask me to help you get Ruki or Kai, Reita just closed his eyes, willing his pain to go away just for a bit, while saying those words, while trying to be a good friend, I’m sorry but I can’t do that because both of them might actually have someone…and well, you’re also my…”

At that Reita just had to stop because his speech was suddenly literally cut off by Miyavi’s pierced lips pressing against his own, the cold lip ring seemed like ice against his hot skin and Miyavi’s lips were just too much for Reita, they were velvety and full and somehow tasted like nothing he had ever experienced before and he just wanted more, but he also wanted answers, so he forced himself to push Miyavi away and ask him, feeling how flushed his face was and not daring to look at the man.

“What is this all about, Miyavi? I just don’t understand.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Reita. I want you. And I know you said no before but here I am almost at your feet, willing to do whatever you ask me too. Don’t you like me at all? Can’t you at least give this a chance?” Miyavi almost screamed.

Reita was on the verge of losing his control.

“Listen, Miyavi, I’ll make it clear. I will not be just a fling. I don’t care that you’ve had everyone before and now just because someone actually said no to you…”

“Do you think that I…if it was about that I would still have Kai and Ruki to pick on, they said no too. And what about Aoi and Uruha, how about I try to mess up their relationship! For crying out loud Reita, I love you! I want you as a lover not a one-night stand. I don’t know since when so I can’t answer that and I don’t think it really matters. I just found myself thinking about you more and more up to the point where I couldn’t be or look at anyone else because I’d see your face. And at first it pissed the hell out of me until I got my act together and figured out what this was…”

And Reita’s heart had had enough of that, enough of being ordered around by his brain and holding back. So he just jumped from the couch, fixed his eyes for a brief second on the other man’s, maybe his brain was still searching for the smallest lie in what the vocalist had said, but he found none. So Reita just gave in to his feelings and this time, he started kissing Miyavi like there was no tomorrow, wanting the other man to be just his, wishing that all the uncertainties would just go away…And the hotter the kiss became the more he was lost in it, unable to pull apart, until he found himself in his own bed, with a hungry Miyavi over him, whispering I love you in his ear, trembling for what was to come, holding on to the other man as if his life depended on it.
