This is a birthday fic for Akatsuki Seal (Meaghan), 7th of December.
Summary: Envy may be going soft, but he is by no means tame- and will protect what is his. Self-control can only go so far...

Edward flinched as sunlight hit him in the face. Trying to escape the onslaught of light, Edward pressed his face into the chest in front of him. Edward wrapped his arms around the figure, shifting slightly to get comfortable. The figure stirred in his sleep, and opened his violet eyes. Envy blinked as he registered that it was Edward who was hugging him, and smiled softy. Envy wrapped his arms tighter around the blonde, and pressed his face into his hair; breathing in his scent. They would have stayed like this for a while longer, had a loud voice not interrupted them.

"Edward! You have to get up, you have work!"

Edward groaned as Alphonse opened the door to his bedroom, and Envy grunted with a hint of a smirk.

Alphonse had gotten his body back a few months ago, due to Envy's help. Envy had volunteered to use himself as an energy source for the transmutation, even though Edward had protested. Envy managed to survive; but it had cost him his mortality. He could still shape-shift, and his physical abilities were still superior to that of a human's; but he had one life left. If he was killed, he would truly die. Since Envy was in his preferred form when the transmutation occurred, that form had become his real form. Envy also aged now, and required to eat food to sustain himself; instead of using the philosopher's stone, which had been destroyed in the transmutation.

Envy, Edward and Alphonse now lived together, Edward and Envy being lovers. Envy had been able to avoid the military; since the members who had seen him were all dead, and he had forged the necessary documents; such as passports and birth certificates. Envy was now seen as an average citizen, and was able to walk outside in his real form without being attacked. His ouroboros was for gone, as with the nodes on his back, so now he looked like a regular human; save for the purple eyes and green hair. His pupils were no longer slits; but he could still pull one hell of a glare.

Alphonse sighed as he watched his brother pull himself even closer to Envy, muttering, "ugh…I don't wanna go to work…"

Alphonse shook his head like a disapproving mother, and said, 'Envy, he has to leave in ten minutes, or he'll be late. Please make sure he leaves. I'm going to Gracia's house for the day; I'll be back around seven.'

Alphonse had been helping Gracia out a lot since Hughes' death; even when he was in the armour. He liked to visit Elysia, too, since he saw her as a little sister. Alphonse left the room when Envy replied with a soft, 'yeah, sure, whatever.'

Edward took advantage of Alphonse's absence to duck under the covers, fully intending to fall back asleep. Envy smirked slightly, and said, 'come on, Chibi, you have to go to work, and you know it.'

Edward replied with a small grunt, and turned away from Envy, facing the wall. Envy growled slightly, and shifted until his arms were under the covers Edward had wrapped himself in, and proceeded to tickle him. Edward's eyes shot open as he tried to move away, but the covers restricted him from doing so. Edward wriggled until he was as far from Envy's evil fingers as he could go, then rolled over.

There was an audible thump as Edward fell onto the floor, still wrapped in the covers. Envy moved over to Edward's side of the bed, and burst into laughter at the look on Edward's face. His eyes were so wide it was a miracle they didn't fall out of their sockets, and his mouth was wide open. Edward looked up at Envy and frowned, clearly not liking the former homunculus' reaction.

Edward pushed himself off the floor, and said, "fine, I'll go to work. I won't like it, though."

Edward got up, and walked over to the wardrobe, to put on his clothes. Envy looked down at the covers Edward had left on the floor, sighed, and got off the bed to put them back on. Envy joined Edward at the wardrobe, and reached for a short sleeved black top, boxers, and a pair of faded jeans. Envy took his time putting them on, while Edward hurried to put on his clothes. Edward chanced a glance at the clock on the wall, and gasped- he was going to be late. Not wanting to be lectured by a certain womaniser, he left his jacket and half jacket in favour of rushing into the kitchen.

Envy walked out of the room, closed the door, and followed Edward into the kitchen. Envy propped himself on the stone bench, and reached for a piece of bread, watching as Edward struggled to eat his bread and drink his orange juice at the same time. Envy glanced at the clock above the cupboards, and chucked slightly before saying, "oi, Chibi, you're going to be late at this rate."

Edward immediately looked up at the clock and flinched, then left his breakfast and made a break for the door. As Edward hurried to put on his boots, he called out, 'I'll be back later, Envy, entertain yourself until then.' With that, Edward raced out of the room, hastily slamming the door behind him.

Envy looked around the room, looking for something to do. When nothing interested him, he decided to follow Edward to work for once. Envy picked up the key from the table next to the door, shoved it into his back pocket, and left the apartment. Locking the door behind him, Envy walked down the shared hallway, ignoring the muffled sounds he heard from the other apartments.

He shifted into an average looking person, with light brown eyes, and light brown hair. His new form had slightly tanned skin, and a fairly muscular, rough figure. He was wearing a casual green, short sleeved shirt, and grey pants. Envy walked after Edward, making sure to keep his distance.

Envy was perched on a tree outside the Military building, watching Colonel Roy Mustang as he slaved over the paper in front of him. He had been doing this for several hours, waiting for Edward to finish the errands he had been sent on. Envy glared at Roy, not bothering to conceal his obvious dislike. Envy had never liked Roy, but had left him alone; since he hadn't done anything worth harming him over. Envy had promised Edward he wouldn't hurt anyone, unless it was for self defence. Envy hadn't been happy with this at first, since his bloodlust from before was just as strong now, but the thought of Edward getting hurt by him was enough reason to not kill. That, and Edward made up for the lost thrill with sex.

Envy smirked at that last thought, and focused on watching Roy again. He knew that Edward had a meeting with him today, because he had over heard Edward on the phone with him. He hadn't been eavesdropping, he hadn't needed to. Not with the way Edward had yelled rants about not being short over the phone. No, he was pretty sure even the old woman in the apartment across them had heard that. Even if she was deaf. Or stupid. Either one.

Envy's eyes darted to the door as Edward kicked it open, as usual. Envy noticed Riza leave the room, put payed it no mind. Edward marched up to the desk, folded his arms, and started to talk. Envy couldn't hear what was being said, but he knew Edward was already pissed off, and that Roy must have said something; because he was smirking. Envy would have moved closer, but then he would risk being seen. That, and he wasn't used to being as light as a human. He knew he would probably over balance and fall off the branch.

Envy watched as Roy stood up and walked around the desk, facing both himself and Edward. Edward turned to glare at him, and shifted so his back was facing Envy. Envy watched as they spoke for a little more, then his eyes widened in shock as he saw Roy's hand move to touch Edward's butt. Edward smacked Roy's hand aside, and backed away from Roy. Roy walked up to Edward, and held down his shoulders as he leaned forward. Envy growled when he realised that Roy was trying to kiss Edward, and moved slightly, fully intending to burst into the office and kill Roy in the most inhumane way possible.

Envy froze as he saw Edward kick Roy in the groin, and hastily leave the office. Envy sat in the tree for a little longer, trying to drill holes into Roy with his glare. Envy abruptly looked down as he heard a door slam, and saw Edward trudge along the path outside the building.

Envy shifted into his real form, and landed behind Edward. Edward spun around at the sound and sudden wind, and his eyes widened as he recognised Envy. "Envy? Why are you here?"

Envy growled slightly, took Edward's left hand in his right, and walked in the direction of their apartment. Edward's expression became puzzled, and he sped up slightly to match Envy's gait. "Envy…?"

Envy replied by squeezing Edward's hand tighter, almost to the point of pain, and sped up. Edward went silent, and focused on keeping up with Envy.

Envy slammed the door behind him, and pinned Edward against the door by placing his arms next to his head, glaring intensely into his eyes. "How long has it been happening?"

Edward's face frowned in confusion, and then became slightly horror struck as he understood the meaning behind Envy's words. "You saw?"

Envy growled loudly in response and repeated himself. "How. Long."

Edward's eyes dropped to the floor as he replied, "for the past month…It's weird, he never used to do that before. This is the first time he's gone that far." Edward grimaced at the memory.

Envy pressed his forehead against Edward's. "I'm never going to let him touch you again. Ever."

Edward shivered slightly at Envy's venomous tone, thankful that the words weren't directed at him. Envy shifted slightly so his arms dropped from the wall, and wrapped around Edward's waist, pulling him into a hug. Edward frowned slightly, confused, but wrapped his arms around Envy. Envy hugged Edward tighter, and said, "I don't want other people to take you away from me. You're mine."

Edward let a hint of a smile touch his lips at the thought. "Yes, I am. And you're mine."

Envy nuzzled Edward's neck slightly, the frown on his face beginning to fade. Edward glanced at the clock on the wall, and narrowed his eyes at the time. "Envy. It's six thirty, and I have to clock out at seven. It'll be a hassle if I don't, and I don't fancy the idea of Hawkeye shooting me at will."

Envy pouted, but released Edward. Edward grinned up at him, stood on his tiptoes a little to plant a kiss on Envy's cheek, before reaching for the handle behind him. "I'll be back in a bit. Al'll be back soon, so wait for a bit, 'kay?"

Without waiting for a reply, Edward opened the door and left the apartment, jogging to the Headquarters. Envy stared after him for a bit, before wandering towards the kitchen. Envy grabbed a carrot from the icebox, and chewed on it thoughtfully; not bothering to peel the carrot. Envy weighed his options in his head. He could either stay here and face boredom and listen to the neighbour attempt to sing opera (and fail miserably); or he could follow Edward and make sure Roy didn't do anything. Envy took a moment to consider.

Stalking it is then, Envy thought, and made his way to the door after dropping the remains of the carrot into the sink. This time, Envy didn't bother changing his form. Edward was too far ahead to see him; so there was no point in changing it. Envy walked at a leisurely pace towards the Headquarters, stuffing his fists into his jean pockets as he went. Envy glanced casually at the people he passed, mildly amused at their expressions. Honestly, he'd been living here for several months now, you would think that people would get used to his appearance by now. Green hair isn't that weird, in Envy's opinion, and purple is an awesome eye colour. They were probably jealous, Envy reasoned, and were tired of their own boring appearances.

Envy glanced skyward, and saw that the sky was hidden by heavy, lead grey clouds. Although they looked like they were more than ready to release their load over the city, Envy sensed that it wouldn't rain. Envy glanced around, and saw that birds and insects were still out. Dogs were running about in their owner's gardens, ants were following a trail while carrying crumbs, and a cat was lazing around in the shade of a large tree. This meant that it wouldn't rain. Envy had learnt long ago to pay attention to animals, because they tended to sense things which humans didn't. At the time, Envy had immediately dismissed the idea, but now that he had gained a little…respect for some things, he had realised that this information could be put to good use.

Envy looked back in front of himself just in time to avoid a lamppost. Envy quickly walked around it, ignoring the small snigger he heard from a passerby. Envy suddenly felt his stomach drop, and was filled with a sense of dread. Feeling uncomfortable with the feeling, he hastened to quicken his pace. Envy ran past the front gate, immediately concerned about the absence of a guard. He rushed to the tree he had been previously occupying, and jumped up on the ascending branches until he was in front of Roy's office window.

Envy looked in, and saw Edward standing in front of Roy's desk, and Roy leaning against it. They seemed to be in an argument, judging from the way Roy looked like he was plotting, and Edward looked beyond pissed off. Envy noticed that Edward seemed tired, and his posture was more slouched than usual. Envy realised with a twinge of guilt when he remembered Edward asking him to let him sleep last night, he had said that he had a lot to do the next day. Envy was almost regretting not listening to Edward's request. Almost.

Envy watched as Edward gestured wildly with his hands, probably trying to prove a point. Roy seemed to be amused by this, and pushed himself off the table. Roy moved his arm, and placed his right hand on Edward's left cheek, caressing it. Envy felt sick to his stomach at the sight, and if Edward's expression was anything to go by, he was feeling no better.

Edward moved away, and a flash of anger crossed Roy's face. Roy grabbed Edward's shoulders, switched their positions, and pushed Edward back; pinning him to the table. Edward thrashed wildly, but his movements were slower and weaker due to his fatigue. Envy sped along the branch, and threw the window open. He stormed over to Roy, and used his left arm to land an uppercut against Roy's jaw. The impact sent him flying into the wall behind him.

Envy turned to Edward, and hugged him as he pulled him upright. "Are you alright?"

Envy's voice was quiet, and deceptively calm. Edward knew him well enough to know that the tone was hiding the storm raging within Envy. Edward rested his head in the crook of Envy's neck, and sighed. "Yeah, I guess."

Envy tightened his grip on Edward as he heard Roy get up from the floor. He had a bright red mark on his chin, but otherwise appeared unscathed. Roy frowned at the sight of Envy. "If this is the best you can do, Fullmetal, then you obviously have no taste."

He walked behind his desk, and started sorting out papers. Envy growled slightly, and made a move to jump over the desk to kick Roy's sorry arse, but Edward stopped him by wrapping his arms around Envy. Edward's voice was weak and exhausted as he said, "let's just go home, Envy."

Envy alternated between glaring at Roy and looking at Edward, came to a decision, and picked Edward up by wrapping his left arm around Edward's back underneath his armpits, and supporting his legs with his right arm by holding them underneath Edward's kneecaps. Envy stood up at his full height, gave a final glare at Roy, and jumped out the window. The glare had been different to his previous ones, because they didn't just hold hate- they held a promise: A promise to rip Roy limb from limb until he died. Roy, however, was busy sorting out the papers before him, and hadn't noticed.

As Envy jumped down the branches of the tree, he could feel his blood boiling with pure hate and malice, he could feel adrenalin pumping through his veins, and most of all, he could only see the expression Edward had made when Roy had pinned him. He had looked stricken, betrayed, and hurt. Envy had never wanted to see that expression on him again, and was now beyond pissed off that Roy had caused Edward pain.

Envy looked down at Edward, and saw that he had let his body go limp; and was now leaning against him with his full weight. His face was buried in the left crook of Envy's neck, as if he was trying to hide. Envy felt the same hatred for Roy flare within him, but also felt pain and worry for Edward's wellbeing. Putting his hatred and need for revenge aside, Envy concentrated on getting Edward home. Envy jumped along the rooftops and chimneys, not bothering to use the sidewalks.

Envy landed directly in front of their apartment building and ran in, thankful that no one was around to see them.

He stormed into their apartment, kicking the door open. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked. Envy looked around the apartment as he kicked the door closed, and noticed that Alphonse's door was closed. He had left it open this morning, which meant he had come home while they were out. Envy locked the door with his right hand, and carried Edward to their room. Envy gently kicked the door shut, and took off his shoes near the door with his toes. Envy did the same with his socks, and walked over to the bed.

Envy gently lay Edward on the queen sized bed, and stopped to evaluate his appearance. He looked drained and drowsy, and the pain from before was still on his face. Envy leaned forward to kiss Edward's cheek, and moved slowly to the outer edge of Edward's left eye. After seeing Edward close that eye, Envy laid a soft kiss on the eyelid, and nuzzled his cheek against Edward's.

Envy straightened, and crossed his arms over his abdomen, grabbing the ends of his shirt. He pulled it above his head, and dropped it on the floor. He undid the button on his jeans, and pulled down the zipper. He pushed down his jeans and boxers, and stepped out of them. He stepped closer to Edward, and stripped him of his clothes as well.

He manoeuvred Edward until he was under the covers, and then crawled over the bed to crawl into bed on Edward's left side. He shifted closer to Edward, and embraced him gently. Edward turned onto his left side, and buried his face into Envy's chest. Envy used his right arm to hold Edward as close to his body as possible, and used his left hand to undo Edward's braid. When the band was free, Envy expanded his hand to move the hair tie to wrap around his wrist. The band was old, so it didn't dig into his skin. Envy smoothed out the locks with his fingers, and stroked Edward's hair softly.

Edward sighed and looked up at Envy. His eyes still contained pain, but they were also softening with relaxation. Envy moved Edward up the bed until his head was on the pillow. Envy stroked Edward's right cheek, and noticed Edward flinch slightly. Envy frowned for a split second; then remembered that Roy had done the same thing to Edward's left cheek. Envy felt a pang of depression that the events were so fresh in Edward's mind, and then decided to erase all traces of Roy from Edward.

Envy leaned his head forward, and licked Edward's left cheek slightly. Edward looked surprised for a moment, before relaxing and closing his eyes. Envy smiled slightly, and proceeded to lick every inch of Edward's left cheek that he could reach. Envy then started to kiss the skin, resulting in a soft sigh from Edward. Envy kissed his way along the contours of Edward's face until he reached his lips. Envy pressed his lips against Edward's, in a way that was neither gentle nor hard. Edward immediately kissed back, and opened his mouth when Envy brushed his tongue against his lips.

Envy plunged his tongue inside Edward's mouth without hesitation, and frantically brushed his tongue against everything he could physically reach. Edward remained still through the course of Envy's actions; waiting for Envy to calm down. Envy gradually slowed his movements, falling into a rhythm which was less desperate. Edward breathed in deeply, unintentionally breathing in Envy's scent, and pushed his body forward with a small buck of the hips, trying to get even closer. Envy groaned slightly, and pressed his growing erection against Edward's hips. Edward's eyes flew open, and he broke the kiss, moving back slightly.

Edward was panting, and his face was flushed. He took a deep breath to calm himself down, and then spoke. "Envy, I don't want to have sex tonight."

Envy opened his mouth to protest, but closed it again upon seeing the fatigue in his eyes. He sighed softly, and smiled to himself, then wrapped his arms around Edward again. He held Edward close to him, and buried his face in Edward's neck. "That's okay," Envy said. "We'll just sleep like this."

Edward released a breath he didn't know he had been holding, and relaxed in Envy's arms. He shifted until he was comfortable, then closed his eyes; waiting for sleep to claim him.

Envy remained still as Edward's breathing began to become even, his mind racing. His blood was still boiling with the desire to kill, and it was strong. He hadn't felt it this strong in decades. He had been planning to get rid of it by indulging in a different kind of pleasure that wasn't brought from murder, but he couldn't do that now. If he ignored it, there was the chance he would do something to Edward or someone else while he was asleep without realising it.

Envy looked down at Edward's sleeping face, which was drained and pale. Envy felt the anger from before flare within him once again, but this time he had nothing to distract him. He could feel the anger and desire to kill growing rapidly, and came to a decision. He slowly untangled himself from Edward, and tried to get out of the covers without him waking up. He leant forward and laid a chaste kiss on Edward's forehead, apologising in advance for breaking a promise.

Envy crawled off the bed without putting pressure on the sheets to the best of his ability, and quietly padded over to the wardrobe. He opened a drawer slowly to prevent noise, and pulled out his old, but still favoured, attire. He slipped the midriff over his head, annoyed that it was so tight. It had elastic fibres interwoven with the material, so it was easier to put on, but would still fit; skin tight. Envy put on his shorts and skort next, not bothering with underwear. He quickly slid the gloved and leg warmers up his limbs, and put on his headband. He adjusted it until it was in a satisfactory position, then headed for the window. He glanced at Edward, mentally apologised again, then soundlessly opened the window, and jumped out.

He did a couple of front flips to control his fall, and landed gently on the pavement, which was two storeys below the window. He had landed on his feet, in a squatting position; with his hands resting gently on the concrete. Envy stood up, glanced around himself, and then swiftly broke into a run; heading in the direction of the military's Headquarters.

Envy watched as Roy signed papers from outside the window, waiting to make his move. Roy abruptly stood up, and walked to the door. Envy raised an eyebrow, and glanced at the clock. Eleven o'clock. That must mean that he's going home, Envy mused, and watched as he took his belongings and walked out the door. Envy sat in the tree, which was conveniently placed directly in front of several office windows, and waited until he could see Roy walking along the path to the gate.

He soundlessly leapt out of the trees and fell in the direction of the gate, occasionally flipping and twisting his body to control his fall. Envy landed soundlessly away from Roy, far enough to not be sensed; yet close enough to follow him. Roy didn't notice the movement, and was walking ahead in a brisk pace, apparently in a rush to get home.

Envy smirked, and followed Roy until they came across an area filled with tall buildings. He walked along, looking for a suitable alley. Upon spotting one, he quickly shifted his form. Since the transmutation, the flash that usually followed a shape change had gone, so he could shift unnoticeably in the dark. He shifted into a busty woman with an average height, a thin frame, and small hands. The new form had long, wavy, brown hair; big, innocent, blue eyes; and a pale yet healthy complexion. It was wearing a modest, purple dress; which complemented the curves of the body. The form was clad with purple high heels, and several silver rings on its hands.

Envy stopped walking for a few seconds, putting distance between Roy and himself, and then suddenly let out a loud, blood curdling scream. Using his acting abilities, he altered his expression to one of pure fear, and bolted into a run. He continued running, occasionally looking back over his shoulder; as if running away from something… or someone.

He ran into the alley he had spotted before, and raced into a corner between a pile of large, wooden boxes, and the wall of a building. He made his form shiver, and darted his eyes between Roy and the landscape to the right of Roy. Roy looked to his left, frowned slightly, and then quickly walked to Envy's side. He crouched down, held out his right hand towards Envy's form, and spoke. "Are you alright?"

Envy inwardly cringed at what his dignity was about to endure, and then mentally braced himself. He looked at Roy with wide, terrified eyes, and allowed his eyes to brim up with unshed tears. He made his lower lip tremble as he slowly reached for Roy's hand with a shaking hand, and then suddenly pushed his body into Roy's. He pressed his head into Roy's chest, and forced his body to shake uncontrollably.

Roy seemed to stiffen slightly, and then he wrapped his arms around Envy. "It's okay, Miss…?"

Envy seized the opportunity in Roy's distraction, quickly grabbed Roy's gloves, and then ripped them off his hands; tearing the skin in the process. Envy tore the gloves to shreds, taking care to completely destroy the transmutation circles on the gloves. He shifted back to his preferred form as he stood up, and sighed in relief.

Smirking, Envy looked down on Roy. "Actually, it's Mister. I'm a guy, as you can plainly see." Roy's eyes widened in shock, but then he quickly recovered; standing up and glaring at Envy. He drew himself up to his full height, and growled, "homunculus."

Envy's eyes glinted with malicious intent as he said, "not anymore. I'm a human. Just. Like. You." Well, not the truth, but what was a little white lie?

Roy's jaw dropped open in shock, and Envy chuckled as he walked towards Roy. "Now, about what you did…"

Roy's brows furrowed in confusion, and he said, "what do you mean? I didn't do anything; you came onto me." He smirked.

Envy swallowed a little bile that had backed up at the thought. "That's not what I meant, you stupid excuse for a human. I meant what you did to my boyfriend."

Roy looked confused for a moment, and then comprehension dawned on him. "Oh, you mean Edward. I don't see what you're so worked up about, he's just a kid."

Envy growled, and landed a roundhouse kick on Roy's left cheek. Roy was sent flying into the wooden boxes to his right, which fell over at the impact. Envy stomped over to Roy, and fisted the material on his chest. He pulled him up until they were eye to eye, and then glared at him. "Watch your mouth, pussy. You're going to pay."

Roy smirked. "Oh? And what are you going to do? Monster."

Envy growled and his eyes narrowed as he glared at Roy. "What I do best…"

With that said, Envy spun Roy around and smacked him face first into the wall. Envy quickly grabbed both of his hands, and then held them at the back of Roy's head; putting his arms at awkward angles. He used his knee to push Roy further into the wall, and then suddenly let go of his hands. Roy turned his head to his right to see what Envy would do next; only to be met in the face with another kick.

Roy flew back a couple of metres with the force, and crashed into the ground harshly. Envy walked over to Roy at a deceptively calm pace, then stomped his right foot into Roy's sternum; breaking a few ribs and impaling organs in the process. Roy cried out in pain, and then attempted to smirk in Envy's direction. Envy growled in displeasure, and ground his foot deeper into Roy's body; twisting it as he went. Roy grimaced in pain, and Envy grinned at his expression. He could feel his excitement growing, the adrenalin pumping through his veins. This is such a rush, Envy thought, he had missed this.

Envy crouched down until he was resting on the back of his left foot, putting as much of his weight as possible onto his right foot. Envy smirked as his foot sank even deeper into Roy's body; blood rushing out of the wounds created by his broken ribs. Envy shifted his right fingernails into sharp, thin, three centimetre long claws; and traced them along Roy's cheek, leaving deep gashes in its wake.

Roy looked at Envy, and for the first time, he had fear in his eyes. Not a smirk, not that cocky expression, but pure fear. Envy felt his blood pressure rise at the sight of it, and allowed a wide, slightly insane grin to cover his face.

Envy moved his hand to Roy's ear, and poked his index finger into his ear canal; forcing it deeper until he had pierced Roy's eardrum. Roy screamed in pain, and Envy shivered in excitement. Envy twisted his finger, severing the flesh he could reach with his claw. Roy continued to scream and cry out in agony, and Envy chuckled softly to himself.

Envy removed his finger from Roy's ear, and grinned darkly at the look of hope that glimmered in Roy's eyes. Envy reached for Roy's right hand with his left, and held it in front of Roy's face. Envy slowly moved his claws towards Roy's hands; loving the look of fear that returned full force in Roy's eyes. Roy frantically flailed about; trying to dislodge himself from Envy's grip. Envy lifted his right foot slightly, and then crashed it down again to remind Roy of his predicament. Roy immediately became still, watching in horror as Envy rested his index finger's claw on the tip of Roy's finger; just below the nail. Envy looked into Roy's eyes and smirked; then suddenly shoved the claw deeply beneath Roy's nail, disconnecting it from the skin and tearing the skin.

Roy screamed in pain and agony, tears starting to well up in his eyes. Envy snickered darkly, and bent his finger slightly; embedding the claw into Roy's bone and veins. Blood immediately gushed out of the wound, spilling onto Envy's hand and glove. Envy sighed at the feeling, and then smiled wickedly. Roy's eyes widened as Envy suddenly shoved his entire hand into Roy's through the skin in between his index and middle finger, and screamed in agony as Envy closed his hand into a fist, and then opened it again; scraping his claws against everything he could reach.

Envy's hands were soaked in blood by now, and it was running down his arms and dripping onto his legs. Envy laughed softly, and then removed his hand as he dropped it; letting it flop uselessly onto the ground. Envy knew that Roy wouldn't hold out for much longer, there was only so much blood a human could lose before dying.

Envy suddenly thought of an idea, and smiled happily. He sank his index claw into Roy's left cheek, and deeply scraped a message: 'Mine. Not yours.'

Happy with his handiwork, Envy looked into Roy's eyes again. Already tired of the stony black colour, he randomly shoved his right hand into Roy's left socket, and yanked out the eyeball. The eye was restrained by muscle and veins, so Envy simply pulled it until the bonds broke. Roy gave out a final scream of pain, and fell limp. Envy looked at Roy's unconscious face, which was quickly becoming pale and resembling a raccoon's, and spoke. "Edward is mine. Not yours. Do not touch, Bastard."

Envy gave Roy a final kick to the head, and left him to rot in the alley.

Envy sighed as the water ran down his body, washing away the blood. He had stuffed his clothes in the washing machine around an hour ago, and had hung it up to dry in front of the heater. He had read a book to entertain himself, and had decided to have a shower while his clothes dried.

Envy hadn't wanted to go home covered in blood, so he had walked around the city until he found an empty apartment with an open window. There were few belongings in the apartment, so Envy guessed whoever lived there wouldn't be home anytime soon. Much less at one o'clock in the morning. That would be weird and annoying.

Envy grabbed a bar of soap off the floor and briskly scrubbed himself clean, watching as the pink bubbles were carried off his body by the steady stream of water. The blood had pooled on the floor tiles of the shower, and was leaving a light stain. Envy rubbed his foot against the tile in an attempt to scrub off the stain, and then resumed washing himself.

When Envy felt that all the blood on his body and in his hair was gone, he turned off the faucet and stepped out of the shower, grabbing a towel along the way. He dried himself and got his clothes, put them on, and then stepped out the window into the night.

Envy quickly shed his clothes in the wardrobe as soon as he got back home, and stuffed them back into the drawers, folding them first. He didn't want Edward to know what he had done. At least, not yet.

Envy crawled into bed, and let out a soft sigh of relief when he saw that Edward was still asleep. He pulled the duvet over himself, and wrapped his arms around Edward. He didn't look so drained anymore, which relieved Envy. Envy held Edward close, and closed his eyes.

Envy was awoken by a loud knock to the bedroom door. A young male voice called out, "Brother! Envy! Time to get up."

Envy groaned and rolled over in his sleep, covering his ears with his hands. "Too early…"

He heard a laugh from his left and turned his head slightly to see where it had come from. Edward was sitting up and staring at Envy, chuckling to himself. "Yesterday it was me, and now it's you. Come on, you're always up!"

Envy groaned and buried his head deeper into the mattress. He hadn't had much sleep, so he was still very much tired. Edward sighed loudly and got up, and then got dressed. He walked to the door and paused. "I'll be back. Bye."

Envy muttered, "bye… O'chibi-san."

Edward shrugged and left the room.

Envy shifted until he was comfortable, ignoring the sound of a doorbell in the background. Just after Envy had gotten comfortable and was drifting back to sleep, the door opened. Edward walked in and sat on his end of the bed, and lay down with his legs hanging off the side. He was strangely quiet, and seemed serene. Envy knew this meant trouble.

"So, Envy, it seems I have the day off today. Lots of people do."

Envy grunted to show he was listening.

"It seems that Roy Mustang was killed last night, so everyone under his command has been given the day off. A messenger came to the door to tell me so."

Envy turned his head to his left until he could see Edward, his cheek pressing into the mattress softly. Edward still had a calm aura about him, and he was staring at the ceiling.

"He was found dead, in an alley. Brutally murdered, I hear. Had his eye ripped out, and his hand and chest were pretty much screwed up."

Edward rolled onto his side to face Envy, his shins still hanging off the edge of the bed.

"He was marked, too. Had a message scratched into his skin."

Edward pointed to his left cheek.

"Here. It said: 'Mine. Not yours'. Strange, huh?"

Envy stared at Edward for a bit, and then spoke. "Yeah, strange."

Edward pushed himself up with his arms, and crawled closer to Envy. "You wouldn't happen to have had anything to do with it, would you?"

Envy looked away for a moment, and then stared at Edward directly in the eyes. "Yes, I would."

Edward's calm expression quickly became a frown as he yelled, "dammit, Envy, why the fuck did you do that? You promised you wouldn't kill anymore!"

Envy sat up, causing the duvet to fall around his waist, and regarded Edward with a cool look. "I know, and I intended to keep that promise. I still do. However, this was something I couldn't ignore."

Edward glared at Envy. "Still! I know what he did was wrong- but you didn't have to kill him!"

Envy sighed. "I did have to kill him. If I didn't he'd do that to you again! And you still have to work until the end of this year so you can quit being a State Alchemist, so he would've had plenty of opportunities to do so! Besides, he deserved it, being a bastard and all."

Edward sighed in annoyance and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I know that, but why did you have to kill him?"

Envy gave Edward a serious look. "Because- It's already been hard, resisting the urge to kill, and yesterday it was too strong. He pushed me too far. He acted like you were a toy, and treated you like trash. That's reason enough for me to kill him. You're mine, not his. I won't let anyone touch you."

Edward sighed, and crawled closer to Envy, kicking off his shoes as he went. Envy closed his eyes and tensed his muscles; expecting a punch. Envy's eyes widened in surprise as Edward's arms wrapped around him, pulling him into a hug. Edward held Envy tightly, and buried his face in Envy's neck. Envy relaxed and rested his chin on Edward's right shoulder, and returned the hug.

Edward spoke softly, his voice slightly muffled by Envy's neck. "I haven't forgiven you, but as long as you promise not to do it again, for any reason other than self defense - when necessary - then it's okay."

Envy sighed and smiled gently, and tilted his head to the right so it rested against Edward's. "I promise."
