Comments: Disgaea is a strategy role-playing series best known for its humor, it's on-the-nose skewering of Japanese storytelling tropes, and its utter lack of a fourth wall. I've seen Disgaea 4 described as one of those YA vampire/werewolf/human love-triangles where the werewolf said "screw it" and decided to chase the vampire instead of the girl. The vampire rebels against the government, the werewolf eggs him on, and along the way they pick up an incredibly fractious party including a teenage girl who insists the game is her elaborate dream, an adorable tentacle monster on a quest to become the ultimate final boss, a grim reaper who's never actually taken a soul, and the larcenous Angel of Avarice.
The plot unfolds entirely through pre- and post-mission dialogue, so it's fairly easy to get the story without having to actually play the game.
