Fandom:No Flying in the House by Betty Brock

Comments: A short novel (I believe the current term is chapter book) about Annabel Tippins, who has a miniature talking dog taking care of her in place of parents. At the beginning of the story, Gloria (the dog) convinces a rich but eccentric woman to take them in. This is the book with the girl who could kiss her elbow and fly, and the talking jewel encrusted cat statue. A much tamer variant of the current big urban fantasy trend in urban fantasy. Seanan McGuire for 8-year-olds (okay, maybe this is a stretch, but you get the idea).
