Comments: This is a very silly and delightful movie that plays fast and loose with the Cthulhu Mythos. The plot in a nutshell: Jeff, the protagonist, discovers (a) that he is the last remaining descendant of H.P. Lovecraft, which means he’s one of the only people alive who can withstand the awesome, brain-breaking powers of monsters from beyond time and space, and (b) that he must safeguard a relic from Cthulhu’s earthly general and a cult devoted to raising R’lyeh so that Cthulhu can bring about the end of the world. Unfortunately, Jeff knows next to nothing about Lovecraft, which is where his friends Charlie and Paul come in. Together, they decide to seek out the one person who can help them deal with the relic: Captain Olaf, a sea captain who faced down Cthulhu’s minions and lived to tell about it. Cue road trip, wacky hijinks, Deep Ones, and geek talk galore.
