This post will be followed shortly by a post on How to Compose Fandom Names!
To nominate fandoms for Yuletide 2008, please go to
the nomination form! Also please read very carefully! If you're an old Yuletide hand, this should all be familiar.
Nominations will remain open through 11:59 pm US Eastern time on Friday, October 31st.
General information
Please only fill out this form if you are planning to participate. This is entirely on the honor system, and we won't be checking, but we ask that non-Yuletiders instead participate by drumming up support for favorite fandoms in their own LJs or in the brainstorming post.
For the nomination process only, if your name/pseud normally has spaces (ie, elyn ross), please use an underscore instead. During actual signups, you will be able to use a space, as usual.
Additionally, your name/pseud can only have alphanumeric characters, and all fandom names must start with an alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) character.
If you make a mistake or want to change your mind about the fandoms you choose, all you have to do is fill out the nomination form again, using exactly the same name and email.
Nominating fandoms:
Only fandoms nominated this year will be available for choosing during the sign-up process! You can nominate up to six fandoms, either by selecting from the pull-down menu, or entering a new fandom name in the free text box. Please be sure a fandom is not available in the pull-down menu before adding it as a new fandom.
To nominate a previously existing fandom, highlight it in the pull-down menu. Do not type anything into text box. Simply move on to your next selection. Please check
the Master Fandom List to see if a fandom has been previously nominated, to eliminate duplication.
To nominate a new fandom, enter the fandom name in the text box, making sure it begins with an alphanumeric character.
Do not input character names anywhere on the first page of the nomination form. You will be given a place to add/edit character names on the next page, after you hit "submit" to confirm your fandom choices.
To be eligible for Yuletide, fandoms should generally be fairly small, relatively inactive, or very new. TV shows that were once very active, but ended around ten years ago are eligible for consideration, if they are now mostly inactive. Please be honest with yourself and us about whether a fandom is obscure or not. Take a moment and do
a livejournal interest search, and/or
google for the fandom name and "fanfic" to see what appears.
If you honestly think your fandom is obscure and/or dead, go ahead and nominate it. Just be aware that you may lose it in the clean-up, so make sure you have at least some"safe" nominations.
The form will let you know if a fandom you submit has already been ruled not-obscure. Please do NOT email us asking about specific fandoms that come up as ineligible. We just do not have time to handle those requests. Instead, please just try and find some other fandoms that you would enjoy receiving among the vast list of possibilities!
Other notes:
If you hit submit on the character-submission page and the form complains that you've deleted characters from that fandom, it means that someone else added characters for one of your fandoms while you were making your choices. This is easily solvable with a refresh and re-entering any changes.
If you're in doubt as to whether a fandom is eligible, or not, you might want to pick one that's more clearly eligible. Please do not ask the mods to make a decision. We will not respond to any such requests.
If you see duplicated fandoms or other errors/issues with fandom titles, please comment to an Admin post or send a note to yuletide at yuletidetreasure dot org, and I can correct them.
