how interesting this is! that beginning part was really lovely: "perhaps it is a cruel color to match her eyes that the years of scum had dyed" and "you cannot remember a day when they were not salt-stiff" were my favorites, and the word choices there are marks of a precise, thoughtful writer. :) <3
