So yeah, EA apparently bought the rights to NFL players, teams, and stadiums over the next five years. I dont even like football or anything, but that makes me feel goddamned ill. Why is it that the worst companies for an industry are usually also the largest?

there is a class action lawsuit trying to get ok'd against them, the biggest complaint deals with them having to work 70 or more hours a week during crunch time and then have to get moved to another game and work as many hours without any days off, or vacation. i believe there is more to it.

From demolishing small companies that make great games, to grinding thier employees with no extra pay or vacation, to quite simply shoveling out mediocre products. They are, in my opinion, poor for this industry. They are the Walmart of the videogame world.

I can definititely appreciate your opinion on the matter or work ethics; if those are accurate (of course I'm at least a little skeptical) then yes I'll agree with you there. However as far as mediocre products go, I can't really agree with you when they put out games like Medal of Honor, Battlefield, Command and Conquer: Generals, the Sims 2, and a ton of revered sports franchises, such as their NHL series, which I quite enjoy. The point is when compared to what's out there, EA doesn't really make mediocre games per se, unless compared to maybe the top 5% of game makers, such as Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, Blizzard, or Square Enix to name a few. Outside of that realm, I think EA's games are just below that curve.

Well, EA's big thing is the front end. They always have a super polished front end. And that's what they care about most, the front end and its presentation, after that it could be a turd with wings on it for all they care. And it usually is. Its just the front end is so polished that it makes you forget about the game sometimes. Several of the series that they publish have gone downhill lately, the last couple of Medal of Honor's have been pretty bleh, especially Rising Sun. But the big problem behind it all is the fact that the suits and managers running EA have no soul or concience. If they did, then they wouldn't run their employees into the ground and burn people out after a year of work. The class action is a good start to making them face the music, but I highly doubt they'll be changing their ways. Even the leaked memo on gamedev sounded mostly like PR saving face. They're funding the new Game Design degree over at UCF. Why is that? So they have their own little programmer factory. They'll likely do the majority of ( ... )
