自分の一歩 ~ My Step Forward
いま わたしの踏みしめる一歩は
だれか他の人の一歩ではない
わたしの足が地上に刻む一歩は
いつでも わたし自信の一歩なのだ
Right now, that step forward I take
Belongs to no one else
My step, which is measured upon this earth
That step, always, belongs only to me
他の人より一歩先に歩くからといって
他の人より優れているとは限らない
他の人より一歩後を歩くからといって
他の人より劣っているとはかぎらない
And just because I am one step ahead of others
It does not mean that I am better than them
And just because I am one step behind others
It does not mean that I am inferior to them
自分の目標を定めて歩きだしたのだから
自分の一歩をしっかりと信じて進もう
ーその決意が 最後まで歩く力を生む
It is because I have found a goal/objective to strive towards, that I have begun to walk
I'll move forward, confidently trusting each step
-- It is this decision, that gives rise to the strength to walk on to the very end
出発点には＜人生＞など まだない
到着点にこそ わが＜人生＞はあるのだ
歩きつづけ生きぬいた尊い証明として
For one's "life" does not exist at the point of departure
But rather, "life" is found at the destination
Go on walking, it is the invaluable proof that shows that you survive/live

The words are spare and terse. They reflect the humility of the tone of the words being spoken. Somehow it suits Sho to be reading this. He's always been "ahead" of the others in terms of his education, taking on the more "grown-up" of positions and jobs amongst all the members. Yet, he always exudes a sense of humility, and he's always game to be put down and made fun of. たしかに器の大きい人です。
This feels good. : ) I'm rusty as heck at translating, and the English is clunky, but it feels good to be doing this again : )
And on a random note. . . is it just me, or has LJ somehow surpassed itself and made the posting/editing process EVEN CLUNKIER than it used to be? Nicely done, LJ. ^^b
