Regarding the fighting pants and heat, Gulf Wars can be a complete toss up when it comes to temperature.
I've never been to one that was 'beastly hot' but I know others who have. I've been to a couple where the weather was absolutely perfectly pleasant. I've also been to one where the nights were in the 30's and the days were cloudy and never got above the 50's for all but the first and the last day. Then there was the rain year where, as I understand it, there were inches of standing water on the battlefield.
Yeah, I just made some poor choices last year when it came to clothing and did get heat sick during the ravine. It wasn't terrible hot, but between being acclimated to winter and wearing way too much, I got to be pulled off the field and was encouraged not to fight the next day. Don't want that this year!

Basically be prepared for any weather.
