Chapter Eight:
“I call dibs on the TV!” Hikaru argued as he pushed Kei’s wheelchair through the cobbles.
“And what are you going to watch this time? Red Hot Chili Peppers, again?? Seriously, Hikaru, were you really that obsessed?” Takaki argued. “I want to watch a movie! Smurfs in on!”
“I never thought you could still surpass that level of childishness that we have pegged you, Takaki,” Daiki said. “But whatever! Whoever gets first to Yabu’s room would be the one with the dibs on the TV!”
“Hey! Unfair!” Hikaru said as Takaki and Daiki launched off and ran towards the direction of Yabu’s room. Hikaru pushed the wheelchair with all his might, not wanting to lose.
---
“I got here first!” Daiki squealed as he reached the doorway of Yabu’s second-floor room.
Takaki, who was trailing just behind him, pouted. “Unfair. I really wanted to watch Smurfs!”
Daiki grinned up at the older boy. “You can watch Smurfs some time! Hey, where’s Hikaru?”
“Here!” Hikaru said as he wheeled Kei over. The blind guy was clutching at his wheelchair’s armrests, and his face looked so flustered and distressed. He was also breathing heavily.
“Who won?” Hikaru asked. “Don’t tell me it’s Yuyan. If it’s Yuyan, I might as well drown myself in Yabu’s swimming pool.”
“Is Smurfs really that bad?” Takaki asked forlornly.
“I did,” Daiki said, then he pointed at the frazzled Inoo Kei. “What happened to him?”
Hikaru looked at the guy in the wheelchair. “I… don’t know?”
“What do you mean you don’t know?” Kei hissed. “You were the one who so inconsiderately pushed me through all those freaking garden pebbles downstairs and pushed me so mercilessly up the stairs! Seriously! I wasn’t even competing with you guys! You could have called Yabu’s butler or something, he might have taken care of me better than you would have, Yaotome.” The poison in Kei’s voice made the other three tremble. It was a rarity that Inoo call Hikaru “Yaotome”. Inoo might be a princess in his past life, but he wasn’t that mean as to call Hikaru by a name he hated being called with.
“I’m sorry!” Hikaru said immediately. He rushed to kneel in front of the raven-haired boy, using the full power of his wide, puppy-dog eyes to placate their princess. “I’ll let you do anything you want, just forgive me!”
“Anything?”
“Yes! Anything!”
Oh boy, Daiki thought as he watched Kei’s pretty face morph into something more than scary. He has spent years with Kei in the same unit to not notice.
“You mean, I get the dibs on the TV?” Kei asked in a flowery manner.
Hikaru nodded fiercely. “Yes! You have the dibs!”
Daiki’s mouth opened wide. “What?? Hikaru! You had no right - !” But the look on Hikaru’s face stopped him from saying further than that. He huffed. “Fine. Inoo-chan’s got the dibs.”
“What are we waiting for, then? Open the door and wake Kou-chan up,” Kei said. Yes, because he’s totally boss.
Daiki pushed the door open. To be greeted by the naked forms of Yabu and Elena dozing on the king-sized bed.
---
“This is definitely a sight we’re supposed to see,” Hikaru said, covering his eyes.
“Agreed,” Daiki said, backtracking and pulling his friends out of the door.
“Wait! Wait! What’s up? What’s a sight you don’t want to see?” Kei demanded loudly. He was, of course, blind, and unaware of the scene that was torturing the eyes of his friends.
“KEI! SHUT UP!” Takaki wailed. “YOU’LL WAKE THEM UP!”
“Them?” Kei asked.
“Yes! Them! Keep quiet, will you?” Takaki said.
Kota stirred on the bed and cracked an eye. Giving out a low groan, he said, “Your wanting Kei to keep quiet is a lost cause if you yourself is noisy and loud, Yuyan.”
Takaki, Daiki and Hikaru looked away as Yabu pushed himself off of the bed and tuck the blankets around Elena who was still sleeping on the bed. Then he pulled on his pants. “Let’s go to the living room?”
---
“Gomenasai! Hontou ni gomenasai!”
Yabu looked at his friends and sighed. “It’s fine. But the next time, at least knock.”
They were silent for a bit - obviously awkward - until Kei spoke up.
“So what do you plan to do to get the girl? She’s married,” the younger guy said seriously.
“He doesn’t love her the way I do.” Yabu said fiercely.
“Okay, we’re down to that, and I guess we all understand that. But you’re wrong, even stupid, to think that he’ll let go of Elena just because you said so.”
“I’ll find a way.” Yabu said. “I don’t want her and our kid to be with that man.”
The other boys looked at him with wide, astonished eyes. That was the first time they ever heard Yabu talk like that: so straightforward.
“Oi! Make sure we’re going to be the godfathers of your kid, Koppi,” Hikaru teased as he went over and pinched Yabu on the shoulder.
“Ouch!” Yabu groaned.
The whole room erupted in laughter until they heard a female voice call out Kota’s voice in the hallway.
“I’m here in the living room, love,” Yabu shouted so that Elena could hear him.
---
“Ohayou, Kou,”
“Ohayou,” he said as he gestured for Elena to enter the room. He looked at the other boys in the room. “Do you still recognize them?”
Elena looked shyly at the four boys, before catching sight of Kei. “Inoo-san,” she said.
“Yes,” Kei said unseeingly. “You didn’t follow our terms.”
Elena gasped. “I… I meant to, but - ”
Inoo laughed. “It’s fine, Mizusawa-san. I don’t expect you to follow our terms anymore. Kota here is the one who sought you out, so there really is nothing I could do about that.”
“Besides, we think you’re a really cool girl,” Daiki said from the side.
“Koppi is really picky with the girls he spends his time with,” Hikaru grinned from the side. “And when he acts like this for the woman he picked, it’s for the keeps.”
“And the two of you are going to give me a cute godkid,” Takaki smiled fondly.
Elena unconsciously smiled at the guys’ acceptance of her. Yabu smiled sheepishly as he laid a hand on Elena’s hip. “That’s Takaki, and he’s a sucker for kids. And guys, the baby’s going to be a boy.”
“UWAH! Omedetou!” the boys cheered.
“You really need to tell the younger boys about this, Koppi!” Hikaru grinned, exposing his adorably crooked teeth. “I’m planning, that, too, in the next few days.” Yabu’s eyes were warm and loving on Elena’s face. “I think it would happen on our engagement party. What do you think, love? That okay to you?”
The room just turned quiet. They all knew Elena was married. And the four boys knew that Yabu didn’t stop short of his goals.
It was thanks to Takaki’s sweet idiocy and, well, a few nudges on both sides from Hikaru and Daiki that the silence was broken again. “If the baby’s born, you really ought to name him Yuya!” Takaki said.
Daiki grimaced. “Oh please no.”
“Why would they name the kid after you?” Hikaru demanded, eyebrow arched.
“Because the name is adorable, and his namesake is just as adorable!” Takaki declared, amking the room erupt in fits of laughter. As they laughed, Elena cast a worried look at Yabu.
How can you be so sure that things would work out, Kou?
---
Yabu and Elena have started meeting secretly at Yuto’s family-owned Riding Club Hotel and Resort that was miles away from Tokyo. Since Elena was still married to Miura Shohei, it was the best course of action to take. The eight boys were helping the two out. It was obvious what the two were feeling for each other.
Now that Yabu has finally found the One, the eight boys would do what they could to preserve it.
If only the ultimate problem - Elena’s being married to Shohei - would take care of itself.
