Chapter Nine:

Yuya frowned at the price tag of a crib he was considering to buy. It was still months before Elena gives birth to his first godkid, but he was so excited at the thought that he was shopping for gifts in advance.

“How much is this airplane crib?” he asked the sales assistant, pointing to a baby crib that was painted blue and white, and was shaped like an airplane. Well, a chubby, chibi version of a plane, complete with miniature wings that could double as changing tables and stuff holders.

The sales assistant said a price, and he nodded at his personal assistant who has tagged along with him. “Consider it sold. I want it shipped to my house tomorrow, okay?”

As his personal assistant proceeded with the sales, Yuya wandered off to the other merchandise of the baby center he was in. He reached down to touch one particular baby walker that captured his attention when something hit his peripheral vision.

It took a moment before what he saw registered. There was a tiny tugging in his chest - it was something that confused him, but he whipped out his phone and proceeded to tap on it. Shit, this is going to be good news for Yabucchi, he thought mischievously.

After a few rings, the older one answered it.

“Hai?”

“Guess what I saw around in the mall.”

Yabu sighed when he heard the teasing voice of the younger boy. “What, an airplane-shaped crib?”

“Ye - wait! How did you know about that? It was supposed to be a surprise!”

“I just guessed,” Yabu laughed from the other end. Then his voice turned serious. “What is this about, Yuyan?”

“I have news.”

“What news? Good or bad?”

“Good, of course. But remember, I’m doing this for my godkid and not for you, okay?”

“Whatever, whatever. Just get it over with.”

“I saw Miura. Together with Haru-chan. Here in the mall.” Yuya said in a serious, straight-laced voice. “As I see it, they’re dating.”

There was silence on the other end of the line. Yuya motioned for one of his bodyguards. The bodyguard handed him a tablet and retreated to where he stood before. Yuya scrolled through the file that was opened, and he smirked.

“Want to know something more interesting?” he said casually. Without waiting for an answer, he said, “Miura and Haruna-chan were high school sweethearts. Haru-chan’s parents have disapproved of the match, since Miura is poor.”

There was silence on the other line as Yabu digested this fact. He sighed, now more determined to protect Elena and their son from these deceptive people.

“I have a plan.”

Yuya laughed easily as he handed the tablet back to his bodyguard. His personal assistant came over and he pointed to the white hobbyhorse and made a buy it gesture. “I think I have a hint of your plan, Koppi.”

Yabu smiled. There really were some times that Yuya was fast in digesting information. “If you do, I think you also know what I want you to do right now.”

“Roger that. I’ll see you around.”

---

Haruna couldn’t believe who showed up at her house when she got home from her date with Shohei.

“Takaki-kun,” she said in wonderment. “Anything I could do for you?”

Takaki smiled. “I’m aware of how Yabu treated you these past few weeks,” he said. “I want to apologize for that.”

“You needn’t have gone all the way here just for that, Takaki-kun,” Haruna said as she turned away. She didn’t want to be reminded of that failed attempt to have Yabu fall in love with her. Besides, she didn’t know how to act all lonely and dejected, which was the exactly the opposite of what she’s feeling now that she has met up with her one true love. And that was Shohei. It has always been Shohei.

“I want to,” he said, standing up and moving near her. His eyes were light and teasing. “What do you say I treat you to dinner?”

“A-are you sure, Takaki-kun?” Haruna asked as she intently looked at Yuya.

“Yeah, why would I be not?” he plastered a smile on his face. “So, shall we?”

---

Yabu’s plan was working very well. That exact same moment, Hikaru, Daiki, Kei and the younger boys were then planning Kojima Corporation’s bankruptcy and how they were going to ruin Shohei’s parents’ lives.

“So, it’s settled then. I’m excited to see Kojima’s downfall. Oh, what I mean is that I want to know how they will react when they fall.” Kei said mischievously.

“We will divide into two groups, then,” Daiki said as he laid his fingertips on the table, grinning all the way.

---

Three days later, Kojima Corporation filed a bankruptcy report.

---

Takaki sighed as he looked at the girl in front of him. She looked as though she has been crying last night, what with her red swollen eyes.

Yuya knew he had it bad. Kojima Haruna was supposed to be the enemy, and he shouldn’t be feeling this way for her, but it happened, and what started to be something like a distraction so that Haruna wouldn’t pay attention to what was happening to their family business has turned into something more. Well, at least, for him. He didn’t know what Haruna felt.

Yet.

“I’m sorry,” he said sincerely as he sipped his tea.

“It’s nothing you have to be sorry for. It’s my fault. My parents have been counting on me to save the company, but I wasn’t able to,” she said as she reached a trembling hand to grasp her teacup. Her trembling caused the liquid to pour over her lap.

Takaki was on his feet immediately as he helped Haruna wipe the mess. But instead, he felt his arms move on their own accord, wrapping themselves around Haruna from the back. He buried his nose into her hair. “I’ll help you. I’ll help you, so don’t worry.”

---

“I want her.”

Yabu looked up at Yuya, engrossed completely in the ultrasound pictures that Elena brought from the clinic. “Yuyan… if this is about Haruna again…”

“I can change her. I know I can,” Yuya said, pleading. “I… it’s more than what I thought I could feel for anyone. It’s just more. It’s something I can’t explain, Yabu, but I want her, and I want you guys to support me.”

Yabu looked at Yuya, trying to find a chink in Yuya’s façade. He can’t be serious, can he? “Why her, Yuyan?” he asked. “She’s using you. She won’t ever feel the same for you, you know that.”

“I can make her love me,” he said as he came over and fingered the edges of the ultrasound pictures. “I know I can. I want what you have, Yabu. A woman who loves you. A child on the way. I want that, and I want Haruna to be the woman for me.”

Yabu sighed, looking at his friend’s downcast eyes. He reached over to pat him on the shoulder. “If that’s the case, then do your best,” he said, attempting a smile. “I just don’t want you to get hurt, and that woman is capable of hurting.”

Yuya didn’t respond. But he didn’t have to say anything.
