I was tying a bunch of cut branches together when I was told, "Are you sure you can do it? Try as we may, women cannot do work like this as well as men can. I wish we had a man to secure these."
Why?
Does his penis hold the sticks together, leaving his hands free to knot the rope?
I was told the same thing as I was tying a stack of flattened cardboard boxes together to put out for collection. Both times, I particularly fastened the objects in such a way that the contents would not drop out whichever way you stored the bundle and I tied the ropes to make handles that would not dig painfully into the flesh of my palms when I carried the load.
I don`t try to force my elders to give up their sexist values but if you think any man is going to be better at something than I am, then ask this man to do the work.
If you have tasked me with something because no man is available, then keep the unproductive comments to yourself and accept that you have chosen me to complete the job. If I am not producing satisfactory results, you could always give me suggestions, criticise my methods and execution or give me instructions to follow to the letter.
I know these comments were not ill-intentioned but I have found that you can be sexist and a reasonable human being at the same time. That`s what I am asking for.
