Old Settlers' Day!!!!

Sep 06, 2008 13:18

It's the biggest parade in the state, celebrating the birth of my town. I had to cover it for yearbook.

I rolled out of bed at 8:20 this morning, thinking to myself, "Hey, girl, get a lil more keyed up for this, ne? It'll be FUN!" I grabbed the first clothes I saw (white tee shirt, grey Juicy Couture hoodie, bright green plaid shorts), put them on and ran out the house. Met Mays and Rachel where we said we would, and then we split up.

After giving Mays our phone numbers, Rachel and I went off on our own, trying to find the band, but no avail. Stumbling around the parking lot next to the staging area where all the bands where allegedly getting ready to go, we realized there where no East people. So, we walked around where some of the "floats" where (they were about a third or fourth the size of a Mardi Gras float, if you need  reference point) and located our cheerleaders. So Rachel and I turned on the cameras and went to work.

Finally, East went to the staging area. We took pictures of that, then sat down and waited on them to start. When they did, I sprinted around to the front of the band. But Racehl was up there, and I didn't want to have the same shots as her. So, I ran back around, skidded to a stop right in front of the group from my junior high (almost taking one of them out xD;;) and started taking craploads of pictures. And that was the routine for all two miles of the parade route- sprint in front of the group, take pictures of them approaching and going by, some of them leaving, then sprint around to the front again and repeat. But they're really fast, so in order to get a good picture, you needed to get a LONG way in front... >.< But, I had fun doing that. Once it was over, I gave the camera back to Mays and met up with some of my neighbors. Then Sam came over to where I was and hung out with me for a bit before leaving.

THEN.

I exchanged small talk with the guy I liked last year. >.<

He goes to a different school than me, but he's in the band, so he was there. And his school was right before my neighbor's, so I saw him right after... it went a little something like this:

My Neighbor: -steps at an angle so said guy can see me-
Said Guy: Hey!
Me: Well, hey yourself.
Said Guy: You're here! With... the Quintons!
Me: Eh... that's not their last name... and I'm not here with them... >.>
Said Guy: -smiling like an idiot and ignoring my comment- So, how's East?!
Me: ... East is good.
Said Guy: East is good.
Me: ... I have boyfriend now.
Said Guy: -kind of gives me this "What the HELL?!" look- Wow.
Me: -close to cracking up- I can't believe I wasted three years of my life on this. xD

The crazy thing was, almost immediately after he noticed me and started talking to me, the group from my church showed up: the massive army of people in orange Life Church tees, the worship float (which was covered in orange and white balloons, and had people in orange shirts singing and playing worship songs), and finally, the group of motorcycle riders (in orange as well) bringing up the rear. The band was playing a song I recognized, so to the best of my ability (since I'm sick and my voice is still kind of shot) I started singing along. Said Guy noticed, and was looking at me like, "Holy crap, she knows church songs! She used to not even know the ones they teach little kids, and now she knows the actual songs!" Although he didn't say anything (since my neighbor started talking to him at that point and he couldn't really talk over her), I could tell he was happy for me... and happy to see me... >. >

So, while it was terribly awkward (because when my neighbor started talking to him, he stared at me and basically answered her questions to me >.<), it made me realize how much I adore Sam. And, it was fun to catch up. (If you call him smiling like an idiot and me trying to get away "catching up". xD) Also, I totally just realized why I allegedly repeat things all the time... I  really~ need to work on it, if THAT'S where I got it from... xD;;

But, yeah. It was a fun day. Now I have church with my friend later today so I can sleep in tomorrow morning. And I'm texting Sam to fill him in on what went down with Said Guy... he reminds me of that one Nickelback song. He's telling me he'll ventilate Said Guy's backside if he so much as looks at me the wrong way ever again. ^.^

Gonna go watch my mom bake cookies, since she's hungry and it's all cold and rainy out now.

... Or not. Sam just called. ^.^
