Enough persecution

On a regular basis I feel persecuted. For being young, being a woman, being non-Christian/Jewish, not having or pursuing a college degree, being non-monogamous, for being non-straight, for disagreeing with the incredibly vocal 30% of this country, for not wanting to wear jeans and a tshirt (and makeup), for being into BDSM, for being pro-choice, ( Read more... )

evil, persecution, wrongness

So, when are you going to stop caring about expectations? Being ostracised only works if the persecuted actually wants to be a part of the group to begin with.

You've found your people, live in it, revel in it. Know enough about outside expectations to behave in that society in such a manner that, on the surface, you won't be thrown in jail arbitrarily. Work small, work quiet, and the ones out there that agree in principal will join you. Make a big stink and you get Movements and Associations of 'like-minded individuals' to rouse the non-thinking rabble and you take a leap backward in what little progress we've gotten.

Once you love yourself, everyone else can go to hell. Do you love yourself yet? Do you love yourself like your friends love you? Do you love yourself like I love you? You ought to, if you don't.

I am a woman; I (supposedly) get paid less than I should. I am non-Christian; I am not allowed to apply for many scholarships and other financial aid. I am not in school; people assume I'm either stupid or lazy, and I am subjucted to non-educational lectures. I am non-monogamous; if people think I'm a slut, no one will value me as a friend or a worker (as I've actually noticed in the past). I am non-straight; many men who know this don't let it rest--they will advertise it without even necessarily accepting it (you think I'm kidding!). I disagree with the "huge" minority of the country; most people do actually, so I'm not too worried about that, but it is annoying. I dress "weird;" people assume I'm doing it for attention, thus lose respect for me, and value me less as a friend and worker. I am into BDSM; people assume I had a screwy childhood and need therapy OR ( ... )
