it does not look like japanese currency has anything smaller than 1 yen...the thing is, 1 dollar is approximately 120 yen, which means that 1 yen is less than a cent, so does it make sense to have anything smaller than 1 yen? probably not

This is a small elaboration. There were "karbovantsi" (not "rubles") in Ukraine, in 1996.
