I am constantly striving for integrity in the nos. 2 & 3 sense. However, I never realized it was "integrity" I was pushing for, before you so clearly pointed it out. In fact, I spent so much of my life adhering to no. 1 integrity that my shortcomings and frustration led me around to no. 3, which is a lot more satisfying and leaves a lot more room for error - and accepts error. I suppose that grace is the true father of my peace of mind, but it's difficult to name it that when the rest of the evangelical/conservative world sees me as a stubborn, cocky heathen. Oh, well.

I appreciate your descriptions and your thought process, Zach--well put. I believe you, my son are a product of that sort of Number 1 upbringing in our church- as I was (even to a greater degree in performance focused teaching) Probably, what has prompted you to explore this further over the years. Yet, I HAVE noticed a swing in teaching in at leat OUR church, in the last 5 years....sharing your points in re-balancing the teachings given -Today the approach is more towards filling oneself up - thus a Christ filled life-celebrating his daily presence in your world-naturally even a pure heart does make mistakes along the way ..as opposed to past years -prior emphasis on fullfilling that straightandnarrow behavior that will not get frowned upon by those watching your life.
