. . . and Happy New Year. When Lennon sang those lines he was protesting the war in Vietnam. I've always thought of that song as a reference to how life goes on during the holidays, how all the same mundane or shitty things can continue happening despite the artificial environment of joy. Just wanted to add that I'm feeling alright, looking on the positive side of this little crisis, the opportunities that are opening up in front of me. So I don't need too much sympathy. Today America is involved in another pointless colonial war, terrorizing brown people one Christmas after another, so Lennon's words continue having a deeper significance than the relatively minor trials and tribulations of my life. Glad I'm not in Iraq.
