Is drabble-ish. Not beta'd, half-assed characterization?
Cloud couldn't see the reddish color of the sunlight through his closed eyes, but he knew it was there. Even under Midgar's cloudy sky, he knew when the sun rose. This made Cloud, (surprisingly, to Zack), a morning person.
Cloud yawned a opened his eyes, blinking. Zack was smiling contentedly, large arm draped over Cloud's waist, forehead nearly pressed to his own. The idea of Zack as a giant teddy bear crossed Cloud's mind and he smiled. "I didn't know he was so... snuggly."
Cloud tried to move, but Zack just held him tighter as if on reflex, mumbling something in his sleep. He really wouldn't have minded staying like that, but... "Zack, let go... I have to use the bathroom."
Zack made a growling-grumbling noise as he let go of Cloud and turned over to the other side of the bed, hugging a pillow instead. "Gumpy teddy bear," Cloud thought as he got up.
Zack was still laying in bed, very much not awake when Cloud came back in, having taken the time to find some pajama pants that were probably Zack's. "Come on, get up, Zack."
Zack grumbled again.
"I know you're awake."
"N'mmnot..." he replied in indistinguishable syllables.
Cloud sighed. He wondered if he could physically drag the SOLDIER out of bed. "Yes you are. Come on, you said you'd spend the day with me."
"...toast?" Cloud wasn't sure if that was an answer or a question; not that it mattered, there were not topics at hand that involved toast.
"Hmm... sounds good. I'll go make some toast. You better be up when I get back."
Zack mumbled something into his pillow that Cloud interpretted as "thanks."
Cloud headed to the SOLDIER's kitchenette (the only parts of which had ever been used were the fridge, and the sink to hold dishes), but had no intention hunting for Zack's toaster. Instead, he grabbed one of the glasses left in the cubbord and filled it with cold water.
He peeked back in the room. As he expected, Zack was still "asleep". He decided to give Zack one more chance to wake up on his own. He shook Zack's shoulder. "You have a phone message from your Executive Manager."
"If Lazard calls, tell 'im 'e can fuck off."
Cloud hadn't expected that to work. Oh well. He found it hard not to smile deviously. "You did this to yourself, Zack."
He had intended to dump the glass on Zack's face, but thought of another, sure-fire place to pour ice-cold water on the man. The sheets were going to need washing after the previous night's activities anyway.
"AHHHHHHHHHH SHIT. THE FUCK?!" Zack shot up in bed, screeching in an all-to-high voice. "Shit that's cold!" Zack peeked under the sheet to make sure his dick hadn't shiveled up and fallen off. He stuffed the warmer part of the pillow under the sheets by his crotch in an attempt to regain the suddenly-lost heat. "You ass! The hell kindda way is that to wake someone up?!" he glared at Cloud. "A normal guy would give a blowjob or something."
Cloud simply clonked him on the head with the empty glass. "You should've gotten up when I asked."
"You ain't my superior," he growled. "'sides, we're on holiday. Holiday, ya know... for sleeping in?"
"You did sleep in."
Zack looked over at the clock. "7am is NOT 'sleeping in'. NOON is 'sleeping in'."
"You promised you spend the day with me," Cloud pouted, taking a seat on the opposite side of the bed as Zack stretched.
"There's nothing to do in Midgar at 7am, Cloud. There's nothing to do in SHINRA at 7am during holiday. So fucking go back to sleep," he tugged at Cloud's arm, trying to pull him down on the bed.
Cloud sighed again, giving in. Zack had a point. There wasn't much to do at 7 in the morning. He slid back under the sheet next to Zack, who'd again turned over to face him. "Sorry..." Zack mumbled, putting an arm around Cloud again. "I'm not a morning person."
"I never would have guessed," Cloud replied sarcastically. "Should I alert the media next time?"
"Kansel'd probably beat ya to it."
Zack couldn't see the reddish color of the sunlight through his closed eyes, and was content not to. Even under the dark and warmth of his sheets, he knew the sun was up. But only because Cloud had woken him up. This meant Zack was, not-so-surprisingly, NOT a morning person.
Yeah, ok. Even my drabbles are long. I'm not one for brevity in writing. XD
