to be fair, I started making costume when I was 14 - so i have a quarter century headstart, which is a lot of experience. the headress was waaaaaaaaaay harder than the dress tho, those c15th robes are all pretty simple, specially if, like me, you just go for the circle approach

AHHHHH!!!!! OMG!! I made that dress!!! I was just thinking it looked like the one I had done a few years ago based on the SAME painting (before I read further into your post)!! YOU ROCK!! =oD =oD =oD

I love your choice in color and your head dress is AWESOME!

(The red on the collar is not the light, I made the dress reversible b/c I could not decide which side of the gold fabric I liked better, and the reversible side has red collar and cuffs)

i like your fabric, but I'm far too much of a mucky pup to wear anything so pale.

headress took longer tahn the dress tho, and was far more of a challenge, glad its over with

Gorgeous. I love the headdress and the gown. Beautifully made. Do you have piccies of you wearing it?

I've just made a 15th century cotehardie but only had a simple veil and silver coronet for the headwear. I now know why they had the plaits braided and coiled over the hair and round the back of the head. The hairstyle really does make a huge difference on how the headwear stays on! In my case, the hair supported the heavy silver coronet.

I avoid cameras wherever possible. and luckily my boyfriend was awol the day i wore this, he hung around the second day, but didnt get to sneak up on me wiht the camera cos it rained so i wore something much simpler and slightly more rainproof.

my solution was a simple bun for the pins to anchor to, as unfortunately although my hair is long its also baby fine, so theres just not enough of it to make decent plaits - i ahve to resort to falsies sometimes. i wish i had thicker hair, all my silver coronets give me headaches cos i;ve no padding!

I know, but you know how much i like a silly hat.

I suspected it might make me look like a sparkly sparkly moo cow (i cant really tell in a mirror as unfortunately its impossible to wear my glasses at the same time) but am assured it actually looks quite elegant once its on.

Whoa! Between you and kittenmint, I feel like I am in the 15th century. Piccies of you in dress and headgear, please? The pearls on the headpiece are rich looking, as befits the wife of a prosperous merchant. Amazing!
