So, I decided recently - I think my next project will be to build an AR-15. I dont know whether I'll get started on it this year or perhaps next year. You can avoid the shipping and FFL fee if you pick the lower receiver up at a gun show. I got my DPMS lower for $115 + the cost of admission, which is still cheaper.
I've read a lot of good stuff about Del-Ton, and would probably go through them if I did another build. My upper kit is from Model 1 Sales, and I have ZERO complaints about it. Well, I wish I would have gone with a flat-top upper, but that's about it.
Good luck with the build. Only pain in the ass is the detent for the forward takedown pin. Launched mine across the room a few times before finally getting it in.

I'm using a Doublestar lower ($100), Doublestar lower parts kit ($50), and a MagPul CTR stock ($150 for the stock, buffer, buffer tube, and spring). If you get a regular M4 or fixed stock it'll come out cheaper.
I''m going to order my upper half from PK Firearms. They have a 16" DPMS barrelled upper for $430 with RRA bolt group.

Most prices come out fairly close. But it pays to shop around.

If you're going to be competing or dishing out thousands of dollars for tactical carbine courses or shooting hundreds upon hundreds of rounds every month, most of that shit doesn't matter, even chrome barrel/chamber lining.
Just match the gun to your needs. If you know you're just going to be firing cheap ammo through it at paper targets once or twice a month, no need to break the freakin' bank.
