I loved The Five Love Languages (no pun intended), mostly because it taught me a lot about how Lars 'ticks'. I realise it may not work for everybody, but it was spot on in describing both Lars and and me, and since our love languages are very different, it helped me make sense of things I'd previously not understood.

...but it does indulge in a bit of pop psychology at times ;)

I think the biggest problem with The Five Love Languages is that it's really a pamphlet stretched into a book. Yes, it's helpful information but not revolutionary. It's over-hyped, and most of the book feels like filler.

I do think it's a good concept to keep in mind because we do tend to show love the way we enjoy receiving love. But if the other person doesn't feel loved the way we do, he or she may not be getting the message.
