Remember back a long time ago when there was this huge LJ flare-up over someone who didn't think that smoking next to a gas pump was a bad idea? After that, I was convinced I'd never hear a more preposterous belief about personal safety ( Read more... )

dude. Ok. This chick is retarded. I learned in my Stage Lighting class last semester that water isn't a conductor when its PURE. Meaning...that the chemicals and pollution and various other goop in the water is THE REASON IT BECOMES A CONDUCTOR. POOLS=DANGEROUS IN THUNDERSTORMS.

but...if she gets struck by lightning, the world will be short one dumbass...

Yeah, water with chemicals and pollution in it conduct electricty a lot easier than purified water, thats why if there is ever lightning around a public, outdoor swimming pool, they make you get out.

allow me to exercise my scientific wit. i've actually done experiments on this sort of thing. the main chemical in pool water is chlorine which naturally occurs as a gas. this gas is so dense that electricity can pass through it very easily. outdoor pools are also more likely to have other minerals in them. it is distilled water that electricity cannot conduct well in because it has no dissolved solids to move through. therefore, if anything, pool water is probably one of the most dangerous substances to be in during a storm. your ass would be fried.
