I was printing out a copy of the pamphlet entitled "The Vision of ADF" for my sister, and re-reading I decided I liked one of the early paragraphs that went ( Read more... )

That's brave, the whole openness to change.
Much respect for that kind of thing.

"In ADF we believe that excellence in scholarship is vitally important.

Y'know I can say this now cuz I have less than a week left in office, but one of my biggest pet peeves in ADF and particularly as Preceptor involves folks who want shortcuts and/or don't want to do all the work. No citations in your paper on I-E Studies? Then by any academic standards in this country -- whether high school or Harvard -- that almost surely constitutes plagiarism and puts you on the road to expulsion. You don't like reading books and writing papers? Well quality scholarship is one of ADF's primary values -- if you're not up for that, leadership in ADF and participation in its study programs -- particularly the first function ones -- might not be for you.

(And I mean "you" euphemistically, not you personally, Zalon.)

Just needed to get that off my chest...[RANT OFF]

Well, you can rest assured that I'm able to put scholarly works together, because if I couldn't my grades wouldn't be nearly as good.

Hey, I hear you. You may or may not have seen me bitching at people on various lists for poor logical skills and whatnot.

Do you think most members of ADF go by that?

I'd say, based on experience in ADF so far, that most leaders go by it, and of those that don't, most probably aspire to it strongly.

As for regular members, I'd some go by it, the majority (> 50%, maybe not by much) aspire to it, and the rest probably don't care and just like what they experience, regardless of how scholastically backed-up it is.

*nods* I remember noticing that paragraph and liking it when I was researching different druid bodies.
